It's what I use on my 2020 sr5 except for the funnel and housing drain hose. I made my own. The motivx housing removal tool works great.

I seen some videos so I figured I’d just go the distance with the kit!
    I’m sucker for tools!!!!!
If it’s makes cleaner and easier it’s a win.

The problem was Amazon told me again it won’t work on my 2023 Tacoma SR5 Trail so I had to ask on here.

I’ve never even changed a a filter like this before.
    Seems interesting.
A few to many steps and tools in my opinion but I’m game!

The motivx tool to remove housing is a must have. Easy enough to duplicate the other stuff from cutting the end off a plastic jug making a funnel to using a piece of plastic hose over the drain thingy you get with a new filter cartridge.
Make sure when you do your oil change to refill the oil housing before you screw it back in. These engines don't like dry starts.

All new Toyotas come with free oil change for the first 25k. You're already over that many miles?

Many of us would rather do it ourselves instead of trust the low man on the totem pole at the dealership to do it correctly/well.

edit: the Motivx kit is well worth the money. Made my first Tacoma oil change a breeze.

A well regarded Toyota dealership with Toyota certified training is a pretty safe bet for a car under warranty. Yeah, it's going to be a 19 year old. But it's 19 year old making better pay than most his age, and he's been certified, and they do Toyotas all day everyday. They can get the oil change right. Half the reliability of Toyota is the quality of their service. They charge too much, but may as well take advantage while it's free.

The MotivX kit is great but the most essential part is that filter cap wrench. The funnel is nice but a $1.29 one from harbor freight or Walmart is good enough to do the job. The oil filter drainer is not necessary either but it makes it less messy.

Believe I know full well all I needed was filter socket.
But it looked interesting so way not!
I’m sure in the end it’ll be in tool box somewhere because I found the simpler way!
One more thing when I received this it was out of alignment. Red flag on employees.
So I took it back to get aligned.
So my girlfriend are waiting outside from to get the truck. One of the oil changers walls to his car pulls it around to where we’re standing and starts blasting some booty ass am shaking shit gets out and walks off.
Comes back leans on his car for about another 10 minutes then pulls off all slow n shit.

my point being that kind of ignorance don’t need to be changing no oil on my shit!!!
I said to my girlfriend this the kind of shitshow they’re running around here???
Plus I know my oil will be premium not over filled the gaskets won’t missing or crimped.
It will be done by me, a person who cares about the truck!

You’re way ahead doing it yourself. Buy the Mobil 1 5qt jugs at Walmart or oil at Costco when on sale… I just got two 5qt jugs of 0w20 at Costco for $30. Buy filters from the dealer and you’re all set. Just make sure the o ring on the filter housing is in the RIGHT location.

Zootruck see that’s my point I’ll now all those steps will done and done right.
As far as the tool I just thing about trying tools out. I’ve never seen any of these tools before.
I just reach my hand up there unscrew the filter let fall in the oil catcher be done with it.

This stuff here looks fancy as hell got try it.
29 for oil socket 20 something for magnetic oil plug. What’s another 20 for the rest who knows make it simpler.

Have you not been reading disaster threads? I hate to say it, but I would trust that low man at dealer more than 90% of you guys.
    Here's how it works...
Guy buys truck for first time.
Wants to be enthusiast and is gung ho.
Problem is he has zero wrenching experience.
But how hard can it be if many of us do it?
Five hours, stripped bolt, cut o ring, trans drained accidentally,...
And he posts a help thread.

For those of you that have rebuilt engines and torn tractors apart and built off road rigs, an oil change is easy.
For that guy that honestly only has a pair of channel locks and a screw driver and he has used a socket wrench never then an oil change is like....

Landing a rocket on it's tail on a barge floating in the ocean. In other words, it's hard.
These guys need to spend time with an experienced wrencher first. Seriously. Don't tell them it's easy unless you know them and their skill level.

They might be able to code like a madman but oil changes are puzzling.

I have first hand experience with a kid who wanted to put mud flaps on his Tesla....

I’m no mechanic. I’m talking about changing oil. Every 5000 miles. Not pulling the motor and boring it 0.30 over………..
I’m 54 I’ve been changing oil and brakes since 1984.
All I’m saying is I don’t trust Opelousas Courvelle Toyota to change my oil.
Cv joints tie rod end bearing hub’s alternators starters drive shafts simple stuff you don’t have to be a mechanic for that stuff.
Now electrical stuff definitely transmission shit those dudes impress me.
    I know my limits!

Plus I like doing it. I do all simple maintenance on my companies trucks.
    I’m not a mechanic.

Why is it a must have? I think it is overpriced and non essential. The cheap filter wrenches work just fine when you torque to spec and the plastic filter drains work just fine also without making any mess.

Like I said I just like owning tools.
I wanna change oil. I wanna try these.
I never said I was looking for cheaper way to change oil.
But for 69$ it seemed interesting enough to try em.
Quality looks good for something through Amazon.
Hopefully I’ll be using some for at least a few years.
That hose will probably be repurposed or tossed to the side.
That plug drain that comes with the filter looks pretty simple and can be held straight over the oil pan.
