Oil change volume, 85% and call it good?

Just did my first oil change on the 2GR-FKS 3.5L V6

I poured 6 qts and the dipstick reading is at 85% full.
I really hate to break open another quart bottle and bring it to full with 0.1-0.2 qt and have that opened bottle sit around.

Can I just run it with 6 qts not at full mark and call it good? The service manual for oil change does say add to full, but I wonder what happens if I don't add exactly to full line?

Reduced heat absorbing capacity? Oil runs hotter? Less capacity to hold contaminants?

So the instruction calls for adding to full mark, should just be ideally shoot for full, but anywhere between min and full is fine.
I'd be so less stressed out about it

Anywhere above the add/min line is completely fine for safe operation.

The acceptable range is anything between the marks. We have a low oil sensor that doesn't trigger until well below no oil on the dipstick.

The nice thing about getting it full is you know where it started so it’s easier to tell if it’s consuming any. I would be tempted to get it perfect until I was familiar with the engine and certain that it doesn’t consume. After that, go nuts.

No harm if it's slightly below the full mark. That said, I open a can and use it as the top off oil then toss it behind the back seat for any topping off between changes. Luckily my engine doesn't consume any measurable amount between 5-6k mile changes so I've never used it for anything besides the next oil change top off. Modern synthetic oil doesn't oxidize easily in a hot engine and doesn't oxidize at all sitting in the bottle so it's not like it will go bad.

Just remember, you poured in cold oil out of a bottle. The oil is going to expand at operating temperature and going to give a higher reading at that time (vs. cold) which is when it matters and when you should check it. Pour in your 6 qts, go for a quick drive and get it to operating temperature, then shut it down. Wait a few min for the excess to drain down the dipstick and then check it.

95% of the time I pour in 6 qts at an oil change, let it heat up, and that gives me about 75 to 85% the way up between the two marks on the dipstick. That is perfectly fine.

If you checked it before running the motor (after your oil change), then you’ll lose about a 1/2 quart filling up your oil filter after you start it up. Mine takes 6.5 quarts to read full.

Crack open another bottle and keep in your Tacoma for unforeseen events.

The consensus I have read is an opened bottle of oil should be used within one year.

    https://www.oildepot.ca/shelf-life-opened-bottle-motor-oil/

However, for me by changing the oil in my Tacoma, Corolla and Scion I use very close to 15 quarts to get all 3 vehicles to the full mark. If you have multiple vehicles in your household, see if you can change the oil in all of them and end up with no remaining opened bottles too.

    85% of 6.2 qts is 5.27 qts.
    85% of 6.0 qts is 5.10 qts.

Are you sure that you used 6 quarts and not just 5 quarts?
Parking on a slight incline will also affect the dipstick reading, showing lower oil.

If you can drive your vehicle for an entire year and use the oil for 10,000 hard miles of dirt, gas, moisture and combustion contamination, I think that new oil can sit in an opened bottle for a lot longer than one year and still be perfectly good to go.

My tail is of the dealer changing my oil and not filling it to 100%, they have a 55 gallon to pump from.. no excuse . I called them on it and they said bring it back in.. I laughed and will never bring it back in to that dealer.
