You have to cover your ass these days. Too many people try to abuse the warranty policy and want something covered that they broke/tampered with.

Think about the physics of the housing..... the Oring seal is on the outer part of the canister. Torque plays no role whatsoever in keeping it sealed once the oring is between the housing and engine case. All torque does is keep the housing from coming off. Which, even if you torqued it to 1 in/lb, probably wouldnt happen. After I got mine off following dealer dummy overtorque, it has never been an issue.

My guess is the OP is too embarrassed to follow up this because he probably called the dealership and acted like a royal douchebag demanding a new truck when it appears that a quality tech just put a dab of silicone as a precaution to keep a bolt in place that is held with so little torque.

Don't have your truck serviced at my dealer. This was my first and last oil change with them.1.jpg 2.jpg

Same here. That way I don't have far to walk to get the service manager.

Yep, I do the same to my vehicles. I've caught a few shops not checking fluids when the said they did.

I get free services from my dealer for 25K miles. I dont give a *^$#, I dont care if they are free, I am doing it myself. Always have, always will. The 16 year olds do the oil changes. With no experience.

Not all dealership service departments are like the one you took your truck to. I know damn well mine is not. I like to look on the dealers website and see how many years the service dept. help has. My local dealership it is all listed along with what they like to do in their free time.

That's good that you have a service department that knows how to service a vehicle, one you can trust. At this moment I don't. I have personally done the service work on all of my vehicles in the past. So when I bought this one, I said I will give "Toyota Care" a shot. This particular dealership FAILED, and they will never see this Tacoma again.

If that's how they train their "technicians" no wonder so many people have problems with dealerships. Over-filled the washer fluid and didn't bother to wipe it up, no rag under the power steering funnel after topping up...

Looks like a CYA seal to me. Too obvious not to be. 1) Why would you use a big ass glob if it was a leak stop? 2) Easier just to replace a damaged part that cheap vs you finding it on the next oc and them not telling you.
