5k every Toyota comes in for "Service" and gets inspected, fluid levels topped off, ect. 10k synthetic oil vehicles (which is pretty much all of them now) get an oil change. 4x4 trucks may not have synthetic oil, 2016 Tacoma's might have gone to all synthetic but previously the 4x4's were the only ones I knew of that were not synthetic. (I haven't looked it up yet, mine is 4x2 and synthetic)

As far as Toyota Care maintenance, it is "Free" factory scheduled maintenance for 2 years 25k miles. Which means if you want the oil changed early or more often that's on you. I am probably going to pay to have my truck's oil changed at the 5k servicing and then at the 10k it will be covered under Toyota Care. Factory maintenance doesn't take into account how dirty it is here in Bakersfield. At the 5k they will inspect your air filters and everything else. (Not in service but I work for the internet dept. for a dealership so correct me if I'm off in any of this).

There are lots of threads on this topic. Answer is: Factory Tacoma schedule is every 10,000 miles oil change with 0w20 synthetic.

I was going to follow that, but my oil looked really dirty at 6000 miles. This is MY truck, and I will keep it and take good care of it; so I changed the oil. I will change it and filter every 5000 miles. It cost me $70.00 to have it changed at the dealership, but I am okay with a sound piece of mind.

Some people on this forum state that their dealership(s) change oil every 5000 miles, but that is on a dealership by dealership basis. 10,000 mile Toyota recommended oil change assumes you will trade in your Taco every 2 years.

Also with out getting onto the details of GDI Gas Direct Injected cars it is better to change the oil more often on a regular basis. I would never go 10k on a GDI for oil changes.

I will have Toyota change mine every six months as indicated That means maybe 3000 between oil changes LOL......

Toyota models that are required to use 0W-20 synthetic oil extend that interval to 10,000 miles or 12 months. You should still check and top off oil levels periodically within that time span. Synthetic oil is an option for other models and in those models, it is recommended that you keep to the 5,000-mile/6-month intervals regardless of which type of oil you choose to use.

It is important to note that not all Toyota models that require the use of 0W-20 synthetic oil suggest a longer oil change interval. New Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Sequoia and Flex Fuel Toyota Tundra models still keep to 5,000-mile/6-month maintenance intervals. Even if your new Toyota suggests 10,000-mile and 12-month oil change intervals, you should still have your tires rotated and other fluids checked at more regular intervals. If you are still concerned about how often you should change synthetic oil or if your vehicle uses synthetic oil, be sure to check your owner’s manual.

They've used those type of filters on commercial vehicles for years with no problem and many more miles between changes then you will have, and you will see none with yours either.

I always used mobil1 in all my vehicles , but after changing transfer case fluid in my FJ it started acting up so I go to the expense of the oem fluid . Look at the oil 5 bucks a quart full synthetic cheaper then Mobil 1. Always ask for a discount at the parts department .

Bought my Tacoma yesterday, they said the oil is 0w20 full synthetic and gets serviced every 10k miles. For the 5k intervals they check fluids and rotate tires, etc. I still plan on doing a change every 5k or so.

Well my maintenance required light came on at 4600 miles. I have an sr 4cyl 4x4. Took it in at 4780 for the first 5000 mile service. They changed oil, rotated tires, full inspection and tightened my shift knob as it was way loose. Service said every 5k gets an oil change, sales however when I bought it said 10,000. Don't think everyone's on the same page I am glad it was changed at 5000 even though it takes 7qts 10,000 miles sounds like a lot.

I follow the owners manual on all my vehicles and they've been kept in excellent shape with no mechanical issues to speak of except a failed power steering pump on a brand new 2003 TRD OR I had back in the day.... to do otherwise is a waste of time, money and resources.

I forgot to include the Toyota Care doc.

5000 mile first service no oil change.
10,000 miles first oil change or 12 months.
(Take a look on the second page)
