So i took my 2022 trd sport in for its 1 year service. It has 5800 miles now. The dealer wanted to have me pay $20 to put BG MOA oil additive in. I said no. They said it helps with carbon biuld up in the head. So it there any truth? Should i do this in the future?

    Thanks for responce.
Btw, truck has been flawless. I like my blue color seams less blurple now. My ceramic coating is holding up. Makes washing a breeze. If i keep my foot out of it i get about 20 mpg. If i pull a trailer about 16. Driving into wind also cut it down.

Ya i felt like saying i thought toyota care was toyota that my trucks care was for 2 years, all the care. I save my breath and time. They also wanted to replace my cabin filter and engine air filter. Remember i have just 5800 miles on the odometer.

    Thanks for the confirmation.

Modern engine oil is a well crafted product made by companies who have been at it for around 100 years - they don't need any "help" from a third party additive.

Politely decline and keep your $20.

I'd put it in the oil of one of my 200-300k mi shitboxes if they had a stuck ring, bad carbon deposits, or something of the like. That said modern oil additive packages are so good that no additive is really necessary unless there's been extreme neglect, and then it is only a bandaid to keep it running a little smoother a little longer.

In your case they're just trying to extract $20 from you. Buy yourself a 12 pack instead

No oil additives please. Most proven to be useless. But some folks buy bottle after bottle with no proof of benefit.

I knew a guy that worked at a BMW dealership several years ago. The BG additive cans (multiple types) had a coin/washer in the can. He saved them and could redeem them for all types of swag.
They pushed them hard for the gain of the dealership, service writer and tech.

No to the additive. No to the filter changes. Dealers make more profit on the up-sells.
However, learn to check your filters on your own, really easy to do, especially the cabin filter. I've had my cabin filter get pretty dirty just sitting under a live Oak tree over a long weekend. I just pull it out, knock the debris out and put it back. Change it on my 10,000 maintenance.

BG dealers are scams. It's all for profit.

Typically Toyota doesn't allow them to be sold along side their products.

I worked at a BG dealer, 1000% BS.

At one of my before 30,000 mile free oil changes the dealer did replace those filters at Toyota’s expense IIRC.

While bg products have been around a long time and some are very good, oil additives on a new truck aren't needed. If worried about carbon buildup on the heads, add some seafoam to your fuel every oil change.

I put fuel and oil additives when I do services at the dealer I work at. Complete waste of money. Modern oils and fuel don’t need additives.

They need to redesign the engine if they want to alleviate carbon build up.

In the future politely decline the offer of such additives, but hint you might consider allowing them to add blinker fluid. :p

I agree its not needed i dont useit in any of my old toys. I do know that in todays engines the way fuel is being injected into the cylinder the carbon does biuld up behind the valves. In early efi systems the fuel is shot in behind the valves washingit off. I am not sure what is used in the tacoma engine.
