Toyota TRD Sport drive line vibration (cont...)

A update on the TRD Sport that has 27k on it. Stock everything. No mods. just a daily driver to and from work. No towing. No accidents. As I said it is now at Heritage Toyota in Burlington. A pretty big outfit. They have their two very best mechanics, Andrew and Toby, working on it. Maybe I should call them scientists. These two have a “can do” attitude. They have 65 years of Toyota experience combined. Wow.

So new drive shaft and Diff was installed 3 weeks ago by a dealership in Berlin Vermont that left me with the shake and vibration . Service manager said too bad. Live with it. Decided With that attitude to run, not walk. I only went there because Heritage was back logged by 3-4weeks.

So far the team at Heritage have been remarkable...thinks drive shaft ok. Drove without it. Still shakes and vib. We have replace brake drums and Toyota approved tires. They bleed the brakes because previous dealership did not do it well. Left them spongy. Air in left caliper confirmed. Shake vibration still there. What’s left? Diff, axles, and the crappy Tacoma wheels. Two wheels are not able to be road forced. Off by 40+ oz. So new ones on the way. I have heard numerous issues with defective alloy wheels. Please advise if you have this story.

By the way I should tell you that I have a EVA vibration analyzer on the truck. I am a former ASE guy myself. Trucks been in 5 different shops the past month to date. Now Heritage. But maybe the best for last? I have a loaner Corolla from Heritage. So smooth. I’ll let you know if they try to charge me for the loaner. Should tell you I actually bought the truck 6 months ago from Heritage. So they seem to be treating me well.

I will update you next week.

I've been fighting with toyota about my 19 offroad for months. Vibe at 55-75 and vibe on braking from 75-10mph. they've, resurfaced the drums, changed out my leaf springs, added shims, steering damper and dive shaft. still shakes and they're trying to tell me its normal like i don't know how trucks are supposed to feel. I'm actually on the line with cooperate for the 100th time trying to get it fixed correctly. My 1997 rotted out frame tacoma was smoother than this 40k junker.

Very interesting thread. I have 2 3rd gens, 2018 & 2020. Both TRD OR 6AT. Neither has the vibration issue. I do notice the "whine" in the 2020 but not the 2018. I can hear it, at times, but it is not constant so not close to something I would, typically take to a dealer. I've owned over 25 vehicles and never had one that didn't have some, annoying trait. The 2017 F250 I traded for the 2020 Taco had an intermittent squealing noise from the engine bay, from day 1. Sounded like a bad pulley bearing. Would come and go at idle. Took it to dealer and, of course, it sat and idled for over 1 hour and never made a peep. Truck never left me stranded so I quit worrying about it.

After having all this done I went to another dealer and they're replacing my rear axle and bearings. Like I told the other dealer to check the first time I went there. But the customer can't be smarter than the tech right? Hopefully it fixes the problem this time.

Finally got someone at the Carson City Nevada dealership to listen. The rear diff was removed & disassembled. Irregular wear was found. Diff was replaced & the noise is gone!!!! God, I hope this is all finished.

Toyota just did one of my axles now my rear end is making noise. I'm so done with this truck. Legit 12 visits for a vibration while driving and braking and now it's whining.

they have sold about a million of these trucks, and there may be hundreds on here who complain. Pretty small percentage. What do you think you will be able to buy that is more dependable than this truck? A Gladiator, Canyon, Colorado, Nissan? Have you read about them on their forums? I wish you good luck.

Ugh... I think I am starting to experience this now, but looking for input/advice. 2019 SR5 DCLB AT.

I can only describe it as shuddering/heavy vibration/shimmying when breaking and decelerating at somewhat mid speed... 30-50mph.

It feels like I have warped rotors, but it feels like its coming from the engine or transmission area.... I've had bad breaks and worn rotors and this doesn't feel like that.

Am I making this up in my head? Kinda sounds like this is a real thing... Looking for confirmation so my wife doesn't think I am crazy.

I'm having the same issue. Dealer just replaced the leaf springs. Now vibration is still there and the truck has a rougher ride.

I swapped over to a tom woods driveshaft. Eliminated a lot of the vibration.

kmalone - I appreciate the Tom Woods d/shaft solved a lot of your vibration, but I'm hoping Toyota MNA would step up to fix those of us with "bone stock" trucks . . . . (I know, you can wish in one hand and crap in the the other - see which one gets there first) . . .

I thought I read these issues had been resolved by Toyota on the 2020 and 2021 Tacoma's?
Is that the case? Trans, driveshaft, rear brakes etc. Thanks

Its more lack of posts. I see few 2020 2021 posts with vibration issues.
Brake or trans issues. Did you see them?
