Searched and couldn't find the answers. Stock 2023 Sport.

I am trying to put together a set of rims and tires. I am not too concerned with height, I just want a wider tire that does not look like a pizza cutter. I was wanting to put some 17x9 -12 offset rims on with a 265/70/17. Tire shop said this combo of offset and tire size would rub. So I found some 17x 8.5 rims I like with 0 offset. But, I was looking up tire width and came across 285/65/17 and see they are the same height as the 70's but wider (11.2 inches vs. 10.4 inches) I currenty have 265/70/17's on the stock Sport rims so I know those work. I think the stock rims are +25 offset.

I am trying to figure out if the 0 offset will push the wider tire out so I will not rub. Or should I just stick with the 265/70/17's on the wider rim and be happy?

Hope this makes sense. In my mind, going to 0 offset with the new rim from the stock +25 offset moves the tire away from the suspension but is it enough? I am so confused trying to figure this out. If anyone knows the answer I would appreciate some knowledge.

    Thanks.

0 offset will push the wheel out about an inch
-12 offset about an inch and a half

So if I understand correctly, you want to put the same size tire on a wider rim? Your sport wheels have a +30 offset so going to a -12 would push the wheel out almost 1.75". Where did the tire shop say you would rub? definitely not on the suspension with the -12 or 0 offset wheels. Potentially on the cab mount if they don't know how to do an alignment but the 285/65R17 tires should not rub at all on either wheel offset. That is a 31 1/2" tire. You can fit 285/70R17 (~33's) on 0 or +6 offset wheels without issue.

To put this in context, I ran a 275/70R18 tire (33.8" in diameter, 11" wide) on stock nightshade wheels that have a +30 offset with a 1/4" wheel spacer and didn't rub anywhere.

The tire shop said the -12 offset with 9 inch rims and larger diameter 265/70/170 would catch the cab mount or inner fender.

I decided to go with a narrower rim (8.5) with less offset as I would prefer not to trim.

But I wanted a wider looking tire so I thought the 285/65/17 would give me that as it is the same height as the 70 but just wider

Wheels, for the love of god, they are called wheels. The rim is part of the wheel.

You don't want to mount 265s on a 9 inch wheel. You are asking for problems.

    Are you lifting the truck?

I am not wanting to lift the truck just yet. I have gone away from 9 inch WHEELS to a 8.5 WHEELS now. What kind of problems do 9 inch WHEELS introduce?

^ This is a good source to see what tire size will fit a certain size wheel.

Don't just make up your own combo as your tires could easily bulge or be too stretched. You don't want to pop a bead when driving.

edit: also be careful with changing diameter of the tire from what came stock. Several things can be impacted such as accuracy of speedometer, auto trans shift points, traction control, abs, there may be others I am missing.

I'm more confused why more members wouldn't want the tallest tire possible vs fattest tire????

Pizza cutters are the way to go....

Good points. As I am looking at being an inch over stock and just wider and the wheel width is within recommend specs for that tire I should be good. By all means let me know if you see an issue I am not considering.

Zero offset is a great compromise for rubbing and getting an aggressive stance. I run them. Here are my 16’s with 265/70’sIMG_1421.jpg IMG_1415.jpg

looks like the 17x9 will fit good with the 285/65/17. Sorry I can't answer too much about the backspacing issue.

    Work in progress...
I have the 275 70 17's on 9 inch -12's. I removed all the plastic trim around the cab mount and so far I have less signs of slight rubbing than I had with he same tires on 8.5" -10 wheels. Different manufacture's wheels. Maybe the 9" vs the 8.5" wheels reduce the tire height a bit? I do have the front 1.5 to 2" or so higher than factory. I was kinda surprised because I half expecting thew 9" wheels to require some additional modifications.

    I had the same question…

Right now, my wheels have a +4 offset. I am thinking of getting new wheels that have a 0 offset. Will I get a more aggressive look with more poke on the 0 offset wheels compared to the +4 offset wheels I have now?

Going to a 0mm offset from +4 will move the wheel out 0.15 inches

Ah, so probably not a noticeable change? Or do you think I’ll be able to see a little more poke even if it’s just .15 inches out lol

I mean, that's less than a quarter inch. The difference will be negligible :rofl:save the coin. Take your tire off and move it out .15" if you're curious or just measure out .15" on your current wheels and use your imagination. Here's some 16x8 0 offset pics stolen from the forums
