Hey there, I'm a newbie here, just ordered a Cement Grey TRD Offroad Taco.
I'm trying to understand why I see most people getting rid of stock rims. I get the point for the tires. I'm also planning to put a set of K02 or wrangler duratrac (Mostly for the look). A good set of Rims is not cheap here. (in Canada) and I was trying to justify the investment :) I'm planning to use the truck for week-end camping, light off-roading. nothing crazy. I'm pretty sure I'll be good with stock Rim but wanted to get different perspective/opinions.
    Thanks!

Wheels are like automotive jewelry. Most do it for looks, some do it for wider tires, some do it for the proper stance, with the change in backspacing/offset.

I have a Cement TRD Offroad with stock wheels. With your k02 and stock wheels you will be fine for your weekend camping/offroading.

Unless you want the visual pizzaz - save your money :) ( I wasted a lot of money in my younger days on SSR/Blitz/Volks/HRE/Advans)

Thank you @farmtacoma. I guess once I drive out there a bit I'll know more about what I want to upgrade on that truck :)

I run the stock OR rims on some harder stuff. They are fine. That being said if you do lift and want to stuff larger than stock tires you might need aftermarket to get the right offset to prevent rubbing.

For perspective I dove 400+ miles off road from southern NV to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon off road on the stock tires. I also drove Black Bear pass (pucker up!!) and Engineer Pass but those were with my Wildpeaks. I highly recommend those tires BTW.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the stock offroad rims. If you like how they look, keep them and save your money.

I got the sema wheels because i wasnt a huge fan of stock sport wheels and i like that the sema wheels stick out about an inch.

Majority of people swap wheels for looks, the only problem with OEM rims is that everyone else has them too..

I just got the same truck, 270 miles on it and putting new 265/75R16 SL Wildpeaks on today. I was tempted with the idea of doing skinny 33" tires 255/85R16 (no rubbing on stock truck), but they cost about an extra $100 each per tire.

Personally the only reason I would change my rims would be to get same skinny 33" tires with better/cheaper tire selection for 17" rims. But that still costs extra $$. And then look at all the threads on rim, spacer, and tire size combinations trying to fix the rubbing. Most people here open that Pandora's box for looks best I can tell.

Funny thing is if you went to a tacoma world meet, you would see everyone modified on sc5/method/fuel/sema/4runner wheels . All the modified trucks look like twinsies

The guy with the stock truck actually sticks out.

so by not spending any money - the stock truck has the exclusive factor that all the modified people choose to get to

I have been in modified things for a while - it’s whenever I would go to a gathering my modified vehicle would be a copy of everyone else

I just found that ironic after a while :D

I recently just slapped some Duratracs on my OEM sport rims. I actually like the look. Atleast for saving myself another $1000+

I am a huge fan of the stock TRDOR rims. I do swap out the tires for Wildpeaks though.

They just look so good on the truck IMO. Especially with beefier tires!

Yeah, those tires looks sweet. I only have about 2k on my factory tires so when they are shot that is when I will finally upgrade tires but I agree with you I like the stock rims.

For the record, what you are talking about are wheels, the rim is a part of the wheel. :D Unless of course you are a flat biller. Then you call them rimz.
