We gently kicked them out of the trailer last year...they were 6 and 8. They have about 45 nights in the GFC now and we leave them breakfast rolls on the fridge in the truck so they climb down and have a snack when they wake up and leave us alone for another half hour or so. :)

This ^ I usually have the trailer packed and ready to go the night before we leave, including the fridge cause I have a shorepower hookup it runs on in the garage then flip it to 12v when we unhook and leave. Then its an easy hookup and go, toss the dogs and last minute stuff in the truck. My wife also enjoys finding camp sites where we can drop camp and go into a nearby town and check it out. RTT on the truck made that annoying constantly setting up and tearing down when we didn't anticipate moving camp spots for more than a day but wanted to get out and explore.

After about an 18 month search, I had Timberleaf in Grand Junction, Colorado built me a Classic Off-Road model: 14' with articulated hitch, Timbren axle-less suspension on 33s with electric brakes,17" ground clearance, 17 gallon on-board water tank with pump, Partner stove and Propex heater both on propane. The list goes on.

Is that even a thing? As long as its not crazy heavy I don't see an issue.

Good luck with it. What are your initial thoughts? Where are you headed? Thinking we’re going to go to VT next weekend.

Those were my first two builds, now almost done building the third rendition which is now a 6x10 cargo trailer which will be better sized to fit a family of three now.

Going out to PA. Wife is 7.5 months pregnant so have to stay somewhat close. So far, without spent a night in it, we love it. Very solid build

Congratulation. Mine are 3 and 1.5 and have been camping since before their first birthdays. Good luck with it!

It seems I missed this thread.

I have a Little Guy Silver Shadow "Rough Rider" that I have done a lot of customization to. It has been towed about 40,000 miles in the past 10 years.

Here we are last fall in the San Juans:

With a wife and daughter and now a dog things were getting tight in the Tacoma packing for trips so I started looking for an offroad utility trailer a few months ago. Most everything I saw on Marketplace was either a shitty utility trailer or a $20k overland trailer.

Finally found this a few weeks ago. It’s an 86 Chevy step side bed on a custom built fully boxed frame. It has a 3500# axle with brakes and came with a Lock n Roll hitch. Almost brand new 265/75-16 General Grabbers. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

So far I’ve added the rack and moved my iKamper and 270 awning from the truck, I repainted the fenders with bedliner. Added a 10# propane tank mount that was in my truck. Also added a tongue box and a large plastic storage box in the bed.

I took it out last weekend and it worked great. It tows amazing on the highway and did great offroad.

The only thing I need to figure out is the dust issue with stuff in the trailer. I might get one of those large rooftop cargo bags and just set it in the bed and put everything in there to keep it dry and dust free.

    When I bought it:

Going to be starting a build hopfully this weekend. Anyone have any recommendations for starting with a military trailer. I'll post some pictures, as of right now I plan on taking it down to the frame of the trailer and removing the whole top.
