Anyone have info on off roading in Sequoia or Kings Canyon NP. Added bonus any camping away from the mobs. Heading there June 18.

Second this. I'm trying to sneak up there the weekend before Memorial Day so I'm checking to see if anyone has any ideas for what to do if some of the roads are still closed.

Also, if you check out the MVUM on this site that will show you plenty of offroad trails along with difficulty ratings. There are still many trails not labeled as well.

Thank you for the response and info. I am a little concerned about that weekend as some place I read that some roads and campgrounds do not open until Memorial weekend. I am hoping the area south of Hume Lake is open such as Buck Rock.

I am headed up somewhere in that general area the same weekend. 19th and 20th. I's cruising solo with no real plans lol I just need to get out in the mountains . Are you going with a group?

A small group, probably 4 vehicles. Two Jeeps, a Four Runner and my Taco. Weather permitting at some point we will be around Buck Rock lookout.

It's in the national forest portion. Still closed according to their website. Think I may give the ranger station a call tomorrow.

Big Meadows and the part of the road to Cedar Grove before you go back into Kings Canyon NP are the only places where you can disperse camp. bear in mind that near Cedar Grove you have to camp right on the river and this time of year it is LOUD like camping next to a jet engine testing area that runs 24/7.

Millwood OHV by Sequoia Lake looked cool. We went a little ways down on our way home from Buck Rock. I know there is an easy way, and hard way to up to Buck Rock as well. Big Meadows will not open till June at this moment.

If you go to Big right after it opens it's great but if you wait a couple of weeks the mosquitoes will eat you alive.

I used to guide at Big Meadows. They're pretty bad all summer long.

bump... headed to sequoia national park with the family. Im a solo vehicle, but wanted to touch some dirt trails that are easy, I dont want to get stuck by myself lol. I looked into the buck rock fire lookout trail, is this one easy to do? or should I ask is this even accessible with a truck? All trail website says hiking and off road vehicle but wasnt sure.

Any other easy fun trails to check out?

It's an easy trail. We saw a mustang coming up when we were leaving. Pretty sure he might have hit some rocks coming up. There is a tougher route I think as well.
