I have a stock 23 tacoma trd sport, with stock rims what would be a good off-road tire for them? Dont care about the price I just care about quality and it fits on the stock rims and height of the truck.

There are a lot of great options. How “off road” though? The more aggressive for off roading, the worse everything else will be.

My personal take is that these trucks are best off with tires less than 50lbs. If you’re just looking to modestly increase off road capabilities, I recommend 255/75r17 or 265/70r17 in a standard all terrain flavor. These won’t weigh too much or affect on road performance too much, but will give a bit better angles.

I have run a lot of tires and I personally really like my Nokian Outpost ATs.

Throwing my 2 cents in for Goodyear Duratracs. If you go to 265/70r17 you will get a 1 inch taller tire that will still fit. You can get C or E, but I'd stick with C unless you tow a ton, haul heavy, or are doing some offroading where you want a tougher tire. Duratracs also have the three peak rating, so that's a big plus.

Is this just for looks or do you have off-road terrain that needs tackled?

What does this terrain consist of, sand, mud, snow, dirt, gravel, rocks, etc?

Duratracs may have good traction, but are not particularly tough tires. Lots of reports of busted side walls.

Duratracs are more of a hauling tire and an all around mild OR tire imo instead of true dedicated heavy OR tire. Great tires tho

Since off-road can mean anything from grass fields to mud pits to rock crawling it's hard to give you a useful answer. Something like a Cooper Rugged Trek is an aggressive AT in my book and should do well in a wide variety of conditions.

I have very much enjoyed my General Grabber ATX’s. But like the others have said, that’s an extremely vague question.

Do you need a mud tire? An all terrain? A hybrid? Are you going to be in the mud, sand, gravel, dirt, snow? We would need more info to give you a good answer.

    Just some stuff...
Careful what you ask for... LoL!
I'm running Falken Wildpeaks AT3Ws. I like them much better than BFGs. They suit my needs.

I just like them as a good all around tire. I'm not doing anything I'd think is crazy, but many people probably think I'm nuts for the weight I carried on the SLs and the terrain I've driven on setup like that. Maybe I've been lucky. That and I'm not looking for an indestructible tire for hardcore wheeling, specially now that I'm carrying a house.

I really like my (insert whatever brand of tire poster owns here). They are great because I bought them and have them on my truck.

Conclusion: You will love whatever brand of tire you end of buying.

I have used BFGs, Toyo AT3s, Grabber ATX, Nokian Rotiiva, Nokian Outpost AT, Cooper AT3, Cooper STMaxx and more. My conclusion: All modern name brand tires are really good.

At any given comparable level of tread “aggressiveness” the differences are minor. Pick the one that suits your needs at the right price.

I agree with the above about tread. But I've personally found big differences in quality between brands (even among the majors)...

I've had 4 sets of BFGoodrich, two sets of Goodyear, three sets of Toyo, one set of Generals over the last three decades on various vehicles.
Of all those the Toyos have had the best quality, they actually are infact round and balance very well... BFG and General are about tied for a close 2nd. Goodyear (all of them) were the worst, by far. Goodyear never again for me.

I will still never understand the issues I hear about goodyear on here. I have had 4 sets of duratracs and they are still my favorite all round A/T tire yet. Summer winter snow slush mud highway. Never had an issue with balancing or punctures and the last 2 sets were thoroughly used off road.

just picked up some Discount Tire Pathfinder A/T's for $168 per tire. aggressive tires, quiet on the road. Gonna take them off road this weekend. will report back. they look sick, didnt break the bank, and youtube seems to like them. i did lose like 3-4 MPG, though. worth it for the look.

Now that I lifted my truck the 265/70/17's look. A little small and I was eyeing those up in 285/70/17.
