What everyone using for off road hitches for their trailers? I was looking at the Ark Articulating off road hitch and a pintle hitch. What are your thoughts?

I had a Lock-N-Roll, no complaints at some crazy angles.

they must have tried pretty hard to bend it. not even sure how that's possible. There's a hitch that uses a typical drop hitch mount, but uses a pin instead of a ball, the mating part articulates up/down and rotates. better for trucks that may be taller and want the hitch lower.

The two that come up the most is the Lock-N-Roll and the Maxcoupler. I ordered a Lock-N-Role for a trailer I use for elk hunting (carries camp gear and supplies). I am also looking at possibly getting a new off-road camper (TetonX Hybrid Comp) and they use the Maxcoupler. Like anything these days on the internet I have found accolades for both and some failures as well but the accolades by far out way the negatives. What I have noticed about the negatives is the lack of maintenance on these hitches, with so many moving parts you have to maintain them or things will break.

I will let you know what my experience is with the Lock-N-Roll once I get it installed on my trailer. Should receive the hitch early next week.

Just received the Lock-N-Roll hitch. OMG, either they have really upgraded the hitch or something had to really go bad to bend the hitch in the referral online of it bending while backing it up off-road. This thing is extremely heavy duty, a ton stronger than my receiver ball and hitch on my current trailer set-up. I cannot see how anyone can bend this thing without doing damage to the trailer or vehicle.

I will take pics tomorrow, put it in the garage earlier. It is beefy and very heavy as a unit.

I ordered it straight from the Lock-N-Roll website. I even contacted them by email to make sure i was ordering the right tongue for the trailer application. It only took three days to get here, I was expecting it next week.

I posted some pics a requested, I can see plusses and minuses for the Ark. Plus is you can use your current ball hitch on your vehicle. Without actually seeing how secure the ball is in the Ark's socket I would be concerned with the possibility of it getting wedged or worse come un-done - that is the biggest complaint about a standard ball hitch off road. I don't have enough info to give a specific opinion one way or the other on it. Haven't seen a lot of articles on it so hard to tell. See if you can find someone (other than a dealer) that has it that can give you a straight opinion on its use?

Would not suggest the pintle style hitch, it is a strong hitch but is extremely noisy and is limited in its articulation, it is what the military uses for their hitches on all their vehicles and trailers.

Is that trailer side on the left? Is that designed to fit in a 2 inch receiver?

The segment with the locking piece that uses the pin is for the vehicle and it is a 2" receiver. The piece that swings sideways is for the trailer with the two round prongs. Supposedly it is easier to connect as it will self fit when dropping the trailer into the receiver.

I have the Lock N Roll on my tear drop.
It was the first mod and after 20,000 miles, I have not had any issues with it.https://youtu.be/QTsm61F7kxk
