Hi - Just purchased a 2021 TRD Off Road with the OEM Exhaust. What is the purpose of the
Cat Back Exhaust except for the sound as the Toyota Dealer states it doesn't save ANY Gas MPG. Thanks

Its just for rubbing a cats back so you can hear a purr of satisfaction. I don’t know the taco frame well, but you might even get 5hp from better airflow. You’ll lose MPG cause you’re more inclined to step on the gas to hear it purr lol

Toyota claims HP/Tq gains yet doesn't actually claim them with numbers? There's that marketing word, "backpressure" again. Yeah, ok.

Same as Toyota's reason for selling the TRD Cold Air Intake.

They both do the same thing....more or less.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I bought my '21 TRD OR AC WITH factory (or port) installed TRD Performance Exhaust. Bought my '06 TRD OR AC with it as well.
I like the sound when you really hit the skinny pedal, otherwise it's pretty normal sounding. But I really want the durability. Never touched the exhaust on my '06 Taco. Still had the original exhaust on it when I sold it last Winter.

I like mine. I'd buy it again. Stainless steel, and a good throaty sound (For a 6 banger). Performance theoretically should improve, but, IME not enough to measure.

It’s for sound only, no performance gains. I have Borla s type and it sounds awesome.

I originally changed my factory exhaust for an MBRP shorty and it was fun for a while. The trip from MA to NC made me want to change it when I got back. I went to a TRD SS exhaust and boy what a difference! My wife even commented on it...

I have not seen much if any MPG improvements with either.
I am KD Max tuned with 4.88 gears if that helps.

Somehow i just can see it for a 6 cylinder unless there are proven hp gains. The v6 sounds crappy enough without help.

To each.. when I open my rear slide window and give it just a bit extra throttle, it is very noticeable. I like the sound, but understand some have no appreciation for such things.

I like mine, makes the Tacoma feel it has more power even though it doesn't. Has a nice deep throaty sound on acceleration.
The all stainless construction should last for a LONG time.

The only near annoying issue issue I've had with my '96 with 415,000 miles on it is replacing the exhaust 4 times.

Well, a v8 with a nice exhaust system that doesn't drone i can appreciate...a 6 cylinder NO WAY.

I posted back a few that I realized it's not like a Z28 V8 5.7L, but the cat back exhaust does put out a nice rumble when stepped on. And again, if it's not for you, stick with stock. Won't hurt my feelings.

A good cat-back system improves airflow and adds some Horsepower and Fuel Economy.

I'd have to hear it in the truck at highway speeds. I like the installation, nice work.

OEM TRD Exhaust has some drone at some RPMs on the highway, but nothing annoying, and the sound on acceleration is worth it. Can't comment on how it affects MPGs because the sound tends to make me stomp the throttle more (I daily drive a separate company truck, so daily MPGs are not something I can draw a point of reference on). Only thing I don't like is the black chrome tip really hasn't weathered too well visually from harsh weather and debris kicked up (even with mud flaps), so it will likely get painted black at some point like I did with my work truck.
