OEM vs Aftermarket Wheels?

    Trying to decide between getting the TRD Bronze OEM Wheels or go with an Aftermarket. Anyone have any Pros and Cons?

    Factory wheels are hub centric, backspacing and offset are meant to work with Toyota products. The only con to factory is maybe cost and the look you are going for.

    Aftermarket wheels: May not be hub centric. Offset and back spacing can be an issue. you need to get the correct spec wheels for your truck. Will need new lug nuts. Aftermarket wheels usually look much better than factory. Another issue with aftermarket is there are so many options to choose from. Can be hard to decide which ones.

    That being said I went with aftermarket wheels on my truck. Yeah had to trim a little plastic so they didn't rub but worth it to me.

    Are they staggered setup? The front wheels look bigger than the rear. I'm curious if you also run the same wheel on the same axle

    My dealer threw me a curveball - I wanted to order a matching rim to replace my spare rim so I could do a 5 wheel rotation. He said that to get a rim which was the exact same as the ones from the factory would be almost $500. I asked why they're selling TRD rims for around $200 and he said that there's a difference between "factory rims" and OEM rims available through Toyota. That didn't quite compute for me... any opinions?

    Both are the same width and height.
    265-75-16 in the rear and 265-70-17 in the front.
    Better rear tire traction due to a taller sidewall height and the fronts turn sharper with a shorter sidewall height.

    If you can afford it I would go with OEM rims, yes they are far more expensive then even the high end aftermarket rims but as a dealer tech I would say at least 90% of rims I have seen that were out of balance/easily bent/finish flaking are aftermarket rims. Yes there are some factory rims that have finish issues but it seems pretty rare and its usually a certain model of rims that were not finished correctly. I can only recall two factory rims being out of balance and needing to be replaced, I have lost count of how very many aftermarket rims I have had to mark and put in the rear of the vehicle so the vibration is less for the customer who wont buy new rims, I would guess over 30 at least.
    You pay way more but you also get a far higher quality product.

    TRD Cold Air Intake, Fat Bob's Vated Bilstein fronts set at 3 inches, stock rear leafs with ICON progressive multi leaf "add a leaf", MBRP Stainless dual exhaust, Sport Hood with scoop, Pedal Commander, Pro Comp 16x8 wheels with 265/75R16 KO2's, toneau cover.
    Everybody has factory wheels. Not everybody has aftermarket wheels. If you want your truck to be more unique you have to go aftermarket: wider wheels than factory, better designs, better offsets. Bottom line if you don't care what the wheels look like and aren't planning on running wider than factory tires, stick with the factory wheels.
