I’ve been unable to find information on installing an OEM Tacoma tonneau cover on TW. Prior to buying a cover I had taken a trip to the local dealer to look how the cover is mounted. I had bought my tonneau cover off Craigslist not including rails.
Tools needed Torq bit T-27 and 12mm socket for the bolt.

    1) Remove bed rail to access Threaded mount holes. Bed rails pull off, I started on rail closest to cab and pull straight up and work your way down to tailgate.

    2) Mounts installed.

    3) Cut bed rails. (I used a Roto-zip tool)

    4) Re-install bed rails.

    5) The only issue is that trucks purchased with the OEM cover have a per-installed bed seal along the bed closes to the cab. It may be possible to purchase from dealer (I couldn’t find part #). Another option to seal gap is to use a window putty or water proof seal.

You probably don't want to hear this now, but it seems Toyota sells pre-cut bed rails.

I have seen the part number for that piece you're looking for, but to install, you will need to further modify/cut your side rails. Sorry, don't know the PN off hand right now.

nwAdamR has a good write-up on the OEM bed plugs install (62541-04010 and 62542-04010) $59.00

Is there a part number for the cover? Can't seem to find it.

From what I've read the OEM cover is only an option from manufacture and is not available from the parts department.

I have an extra set of the foam seals for the front rail if anyone needs them. Pictured above in installation instructions. I'll mail to the first person that needs them.

Does any body know if this is strong enough to sit on? Maybe throw a folding chair on it and sit?

I don't. What I did is email a couple of the aftermarket companies and both ended up mailing them to me.

The OEM tonneau is plastic, so I don't think it would support that much weight in the center. I was wondering the same thing and couldn't find any info online. I don't know the weight limit of any of the aftermarket covers.

The oem cover pretty sturdy and weighs a ton. Put a cut 2x4 prop under the center for insurance and you could sit on.

That is kind of what I was thinking. Throw a few supports under it and let my lady lay out on the back at the beach or sit up there at a drive in or tailgate.

I was surprised when the dealer told me it was installed at the factory and not the port. Maybe that has something to do with why it's not available through the dealer parts department.

No tools needed, from closest to cab pull straight up on plastic rail and work your way towards tailgate.

I didn't even realize I linked this thread. Thought I was posting in the other tonneau thread about some guy looking for help. :drunk:
