Just purchased a new 2014 Taco with the TRD off road package. As you all know the package comes with a engine skid plate, but I was also supposed to get a front skid plate. The dealer is telling me that's what i got, but it doesn't look like it to me. I realize these are flimsy and do not really protect, but I paid for it, and think they should come through. So, my questions is, does the TRD off road package skid plate cover part of the front? Or just the engine. I have attached a couple of pictures to help clarify what I am asking. One is my truck, the other is the OEM skid plate.

Yeah looks like you have the common Toyota TRD stock skid plate. Head over to www.bpfabricating.com ... He makes a nice one like your second Pic.

Before you go all ape-shit on the dealer, read the fine print carefully.

The TRD package comes with "engine skid plate" and "front tow hook"

The option that you've pictured on the right is called the "front skid plate" and is available as an extra cost dealer add on.

PS Now that you know it's not included - don't blow 205 on that thing unless you just really like the way it looks.

If you're really going offroading - start a budget for other stuff you'll need and start putting the money towards that.

exactly, get a real skid plate. There are plenty on vendors to choose from on this site. I run a AllPro front, and just ordered my tranny and transfer skids as well. The stock are basically crap if you do any offroading. The AllPro saved my engine already once on a huge rock I got stuck on. Good luck

Jeez, BJmoose thanks. Yeah, I know what the TRD off road package comes with, the front skid plate option was supposed to be on my truck (I did not order it, it came as factory installed option, and was itemized as such. So I paid for the damn thing.) Why would you think I wouldn't do my homework on a $31000 (+$205 for the skid plate) purchase. Thanks for the snarky response.

The moose is a fairly smart man, compared to some on here. Anyway, the picture you provided us of your own truck is a skid plate, the stock photo with the shiny aluminum skid will probably cost you more than $205 and will crinkle if you kick it.

Edit: If you really want one bad enough, they are somewhat common on the B/S/T marketplace for about $100.

From Toyota's website. Engine skid NOT front skid clearly stated. My OR came with the same splash guard yours did.

I ordered mine last week from Matt, it ships tomorrow. Happy to hear you love it, seems to be the general consensus from most who have bought these.

Believe it or not there are people even on TacomaWorld that still think the composite bed is a bed liner with a metal bed underneath.

Your truck is the OEM skid. The other one is an aftermarket add on that doesnt come with any package (yet). Maybe next year on that TRD pro thing they are pushing. Sorry

I'll happily admit I'm wrong and crave your humble pardon if you scan and post up some sales document that shows that they're supposed to add the 'front skid plate' as a supplemental add on to the basic TRD-OffRoad factory provided equipment.

I went thru the same thing you did.
The TRD Offroad package comes with a two piece skid plate.

I tried to buy the plate that wraps up to the bumper, dealer said it came with a skid plate and if I bought an extra one I would need to remove part of the factory skid plate.

The factory skid is not very good for heavy offroading.

There are great aftermarket plates out there.

I laughed when I first saw the factory 'skid plate' that came on my 2014 Tacoma. I think it is the same gauge steel as my Webber BBQ girll, haha.

I added the factory "dress-up" skid plate to my '14 TRD O/R, and didn't have to remove anything to install it....
