I just installed my OEM roof rack on my DC. What is everyone using for pads? I will use the rack mostly for my canoe so I intend to get long pads...

Do the pads folks have stay on when the rack is stowed or do you remove them?

I know I can use the pipe insulation but was hoping for some black pads..

    Pics are always nice..

    Thanks

Camper top with racks, Custom fogs behind lower bumper. Interior LED lighting, Rock Lights, Hella 500s with upraged bulbs behind black billet grill, AAL, Front 5100s
Pipe insulation which comes off after your done is the normal and cheap route. If you do want something more fancy that you leave on there look into surf board pads.

As mentioned above, In the past, I have used pipe insulation from like Lowes or HD on my thule racks. They make a kind that is dense black, not like the cheaper popcorn foam. Its cheap & has a cut in it so its removable. Or they sell those foam blocks that cost more at dicks sporting goods etc. but they are expensive imo for what you get. The pipe insulation works great!

There was a guy over at TN who had some Toyota pads, not sure if they were custom or from a FJ/OEM or some thing like that. There were pics if memory serves me right..... you could search over there for rack pads.

FWIW, I do not use anything on my thule rack for the bars never come off or fold in. Seems like most of the OEM folks like that the bars fold in & it will save you mpg. :)

I think I remember that post also. For some reason, I think he picked them up off E Bay. They were for something else but did the job.
