    A few.
    Those rails
Those rails are made for Toyota by n-fab. I bought a set through n fab. They sell the detachable steps seperately.

I think this is what I will be doing. Any thoughts on why this approach is better than the predator tubes (which are also an option)

I tried to get a set of the ‘trail rails’ added on my ‘22 Sport that I picked up a week ago in Pensacola. Dealer had trouble finding them so they reached out to corporate and later told me (no BS, they really said it, got the texts to prove it):
“those will not fit your truck. Toyota said that due to production variation, trucks coming from the Baja plant will not be able to fit them.”

I found that quite interesting. If a dealer were to fabricate a lie about why they couldn’t get what I want…why the hell would they say that?

I have the MBRP sliders on my tacoma. I don't know if you can still them but they weigh about 100 pounds for the both of them. They ship in two parts that slide together like tent poles so shipping cost are kept low. I have bounced off rocks twice with them and they have worked for that. They do have a kick out on the back end. Anyways, sounds like what you are looking for so I thought I would mention them.

This is likely similar to the n-fab the dealer / distributor is putting on for me. I’ll just pop in some steps for the wife and kids and pull them off for wheelin

Out of curiosity — how is the sheet metal strong enough to even hold these rails? Is it some super thick sheet metal? I’d think it would tear them off if you stepped on them.

Those MBRP’s connect to the frame “real sliders”, your Toyota ones will not be attached to the frame. If you actually edge up on a rock and put the weight of your truck on them you’re gonna have bent things. You can use real sliders as a jacking point when you’re stuck and can’t get to the frame rail as well.

Totally understand - but what will bend? The sheetmetal or the fake rock sliders attached to it?

I am not able to “delete” the n-fab sliders so I’m going to use them for a bit, then sell them and then get proper sliders that attach to the frame itself

Quite possibly both will bend, and if you only bend the steps then they become trash anyway. Just sell them right away as takeoffs and use that towards sliders.

Ya, if they are not attached to the frame, welded or bolted, it is better to take them off if you are planning on going through some places with questionable clearance. Having the steps attached by the 5 bolts directly under the door is only gonna lower your clearance and increase your chances of damaging your truck if your planning on some questionable trails.

So the trail rails don’t have any place to attach any steps - must not be the n-fabs that you can attach steps to

If they don’t mount to the frame, they won’t protect your truck in the rocks. Seems totally pointless to me. Can’t step on them, they don’t do shit for off road protection.

They look cool and provide some flying rock protection — I wish I had ones that bolted to the frame but I don’t. There was a post about steps that could be attached and that’s what I was asking about

Yet 50,000 Jeep Rubicons are sold each year with body-mounted "rock rails". About as popular as hood scoops I guess :D
