Is there a comparison somewhere online? I believe Akebono is the OE manufacturer for Mazda. my wife's car. I agree that tires and brakes are mission critical on a vehicle, especially a truck. Where you at is SJ Hairless Ape?

I thought they might be the OE manufacturer for Toyota too as Mazda and Toyota share many OE Manufactures

I believe they’re both. The factory pads are Advics & the cheaper replacements are Akebonos? Might be the other way around. Somebody wrote a thread on here about it, I’ll try to find it for the group. Solid pads either way

I believe Toyota owns Advics, but Akebono is a common OEM supplier. I know my Mazda has Akebono brakes, but I’m pretty sure my Taco has Advics. I could be wrong.

    Edit.
So i did a little research and it turns out Advics is a division of Aisin which is 30% owned by Toyota.

Buy ‘em now. They’ll double again by the end of the year.

So order Advics pads for $52, and you get shims included, unlike OEM pads at the dealer: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1874706&cc=3354143&pt=1684&jsn=441

+1 for Akebono pads. Have them on my IS250. Low dust and work incredibly well esp once warmed up a bit.

Also, yes the price has gone up. But how often are you replacing pads!?

Toyota buys from more then one vendor. Akebono sells pads to Toyota, ford, GM, Nissan, Honda, Subaru and a couple others. They also use advics. OEM means original equipment manufacturer. More then one company can manufacture parts as long as they are to spec.

Don’t call me buddy, guy. Haha

They are two sets tho, IIRC the more expensive pads, factory issued are advics, the Toyota branded replacements at like 1/2 the cost of the factory pads are Akebono’s. Solid pads either way you go

Do I assume correctly that this thread is about disc brake pads and not some other type of pads?
