Ok, ive got an 09 auto trd OR DCSB..... i cant get the reverse signal pointed out by the op ( red wire on top connector behind coin tray ) to work..... did i miss something? Ive got feed to my radio (pioneer avh-x4800bs) confirmed by going into the radio and choosing camera feed, but i cant get it to switch automatically when shifted into reverse...

I'm not sure about the reverse signal behind the coin tray, but several (including myself) have used a thick red wire found in the driver side kick panel. I believe (but not sure) it is pictured earlier in this thread. On my 2010 Manual 2.7L AC, it was a thick purple wire in the same position.

Here is a link to a thread where I found such a pic: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/reverse-lamp-wire-near-dash.422442/

Just did this mod and want to confirm the reverse wire is RED on a 2009 manual.

Mod worked perfect. Now have rear view on my HU. Picture is as fine as a camera from 09 can do.

Nice to actually be able to see whats going on without looking at a tiny screen on the mirror.

Try the black harness behind the glove box, think it's the red wire.

2012 X-Runner with non JBL stock head unit and backup camera in rear view mirror. I've read all the posts here, and can only conclude that just about every year has a different source for the backup camera trigger wire (some red, some red/white, some purple, some behind the kick panel, some behind the coin box, some behind the glove box... argh!!) I'll be searching tomorrow to find mine so wish me luck, or if anyone with a similar truck wants to save me the time, please chime in.

My other big concern though is that everyone talks about only three wires: video signal +, video signal - (which make up the RCA plug) and camera power (from the backup camera trigger wire), but in the diagram below, it shows a 4th stock wire, the shielded body GND. On the harness I got from Crutchfield for my Pioneer AVH-X4800BS, sure enough, it has two wires going to an RCA plug, but then two other wires which I assume are to be attached to the camera trigger power (+) and the "shielded body ground". Should I not be concerned about not having this ground, or should I be tapping it into terminal #4 as in the IO1 diagram below?

This is a great thread, any advice for a 2009 Taco that doesn't have the back up mirror? It has the regular stock mirror. It does have the back up camera though. Which OEM Double Din stereos work with the stock back up camera?

I just installed A Pioneer AVH-X2800BS - every thing is installed as described and working as i should, but I am not getting the backup camera image on the HU just a black screen with "image may be reversed...", I am getting it on the mirror. The Reverse switch is working correctly. I have also tested continuity on the video cable from the harness to the head unit and the cable is good. any ideas would be great.

You must connect the signal of the reverse cable to the cable that brings the radio so that there will be the images

how can I disconnect the camera from the rear view mirror and just leave the radio, since if I unplug the rearview mirror, the camera can not be seen on the radio

So this means my backup camera will stay in the backup mirror... but also be in my Pioneer head unit?

Nice. and is this a hack/mod... Or is this something a stereo installer can easily do? And do without following this post.

They said they can add my camera to my pioneer, but I don't want some random dude hacking my stuff. But if it's an easy process a professional can do, then sure.
