The OEM 24F battery in my 2016 OR is/was absolute junk.

I replaced it friday with a store brand from O'Reilly Auto Parts. The stock battery was junk, I know it was because TW told me so years ago. Mine was especially shitty, it didn't even have the decency to fail in a timely manner, once I hit the 5 year mark I decided I had enough of this BS and replaced it.

That'll show it who the boss is.

Seriously, I figured I was pushing my luck if I waited until it gets -5°F in February and hear the sickening *click* when I try to leave work.

FYI. Most "store brand" batteries come from the same manufacturers - they just put different stickers on them. Other than the specialty batteries, Interstate and DieHard may be exceptions.

A lot of OEM batteries and factory tires are crap now. My wife’s 2014 CRV got 12,500 on the tires from new. The battery died in less than 3 years. My salesperson circled the battery warranty in my manual for my 2021 Tacoma and said its 3 years I think, if it dies before then, bring it back to get it replaced or bring in a receipt and they’ll reimburse me.

    5 years?!

A lot of people here including me only made it 2/3 years. Mine was just over two years. I think you got a good one for 5 years.

Smart to replace before it died, it's not worth getting stuck trying get another $2 out of that old battery or crusty ol tires. But, many will ride them out until they shit the bed.

Mines at two years and it looks like the terminals are about to melt off. Going to replace mine this week.

FWIW. Batteries are a device which relies on a CHEMICAL reaction to generate the electricity.

When the chemicals are depleted.....the battery is done.

5 year old battery is junk? I guess I've been out of the parts game too long. 3 years was average. 5 year was considered somewhere between a unicorn or a miracle. :notsure:

Gotcha. I tried initially, but didn't see it. Internet subtleties are hard to both pick up and put down.

Sorry, I forgot this place only reacts to dumpster fires.

Subtle sarcasm was a swing and a miss. To be clear...

    * Thanks for explaining what a wet cell battery is, I thought it was magic (more sarcasm)
    * The OEM battery was still cranking over like a champ, I replaced it as a precaution. Who knows maybe it would have lasted another year, or two or...?
    * The last sentence of the original post started with "Seriously..." should have been a clue. And it isn't friday

Actually the OP is lucky to get that much. Usually my past luck with flooded lead acid batteries is 2-3 years.
The only battery that exceeded that is the Die Hard Platinum AGM battery I put in my Jeep in winter of 2013. It lasted till January 2020. By then there were no Sears stores near me to get another and since I was planning to sell it within the year I put a flooded battery from batteries +.

I don't know who makes the DieHeard battery now that Advance auto parts bought the rights to the brand name.

If my toyota battery lasts 3 year I'm not going to complain.

Yeah Advance auto parts is where I was getting the batteries that went kaput way before the warranty. Some of the warranty replacement wouldn't last a week they had to give my money back. I kinda doubt that.
