It’s summer time and I’ve been wondering why did toyota get rid of the transmission cooler that used to sit in front the a/c condenser? My old 2020 Trd sport 3.5 v6 had this cooler there but my new 2023 3.5 v6 doesn’t have a cooler anymore.

You can get one installed for less than 600 bones at most good shops

I would only worry about it if you tow a lot , but then again who buts a tacoma as a tow rig? But back to your question Mike Sweers and team deemed it thermally inefficient etc etc

Toyota already has the cooler built inside the radiator...I think they did it this was for quicker atf warmup, so these autos would work better when the engine is still not up to temp.

As has every automatic of multiple marquees I've owned since the mid 60's

He's speaking of the aux unit that at one point was part of the tow package that was eliminated somewhere in the 3rd gen life cycle.

In certain conditions the radiator cooler is inadequate. Problem is, if one does not have a tool to monitor the trans temps, you don't know if you need more capacity or not.

also the oem aux atf cooler that Toyota used up until 2020(2021?) ish on the 3rd gen Taco tow package was quite small compared to aftermarket offerings
i have a 2.7 4x4 access cab and my walleye boat is close to its max towing capacity so i added (bigger) atf cooler to be safe, lots of hills where im at and when i need to traverse a big city i get stuck on bumper to bumper traffic on the freeway.

I'm all in for running transmissions cooler than recommended. Never had one apart on the bench where I said it's a shame they didn't run it a bit hotter and all this wouldn't have happened. Been running coolers for many years and never had a transmission casualty. My goal for the Tacoma was to knock 50 degrees off recommended, and the two coolers is what was needed. Love the look of nice red fluid ! Sorry to ruffle feathers here but BS needs his 12 post a day average with about one making any sense.

I don't believe toyota had it inside the radiator before moving it there. They no longer saw it necessary to run it externally when they could make it part of the radiator.

I'm thinking about the same thing but not understanding all of the cryptic posting about this so if you could, please do me a favor...?

Slowly, and with little words, pretend you are explaining this to someone so obtuse they still wear a covid mask in the shower.
