I just bought the Genesis Off-Road dual battery kit for my 2nd gen.

Iv narrowed down to the Group 34 Odyssey 1500 and Diehard Platinum AGM’s.

Clearly the odyssey outperforms and is a superior battery, but it does so at added cost and at 12+ more pounds / unit, but with 1 extra year of warranty.

The only pros I see over the odyssey are the weight savings, and given the previous problems with metal fatigue in this factory location I personally “weigh” it heavily. The other is the cost, $220 each vs $300+ each.

Cost isn’t a terribly big deal but always nice to save a dollar so I guess it really comes down to the weight in the factory location.

On a side note, I am currently running a 3 month old Group 35 Optima yellow top. If I can’t sell it easily locally il relocate it to the passenger firewall and tie in as a third battery...yes, completely unnecessary!

    What say you?

Well...eventually I chose the Odyssey. Plenty of clearance from oil fill neck but definitely increases the amount of tim needed to change a lightbulb.

maybe in a few weeks il relocate my Optima yellow top to the passenger fire wall as a third unless I can sell it locally.

I'm curious why not just another yellow top?

You made the right choice. There was a time when the die hard platinum was a great choice... but alas it is no more. The name (and just the name) was sold to Advance Auto Parts. I forget now what they were called before (everstart maybe?), but anyways, it’s whatever that same battery was, just now relabeled as die hard.

It was a thought for sure. the odyssey is clearly better than the yellow top. I didn’t realize how bad the reviews were on the yellow until after I bought it. I was running on a jump start so I had to put something in. No sense in buying another crappy battery.

Yeah, I understand and have read some negative reviews myself. I've never had one myself but I know of 2 people who have had them and were real happy with their performance. But both of those people were talking about 15 or so year ago yellow tops.

In the end, I think what got me was the warranty and the fact that it’s from Autozone and there’s always one close by. Iv almost always used whatever duralast they had on the shelf and change them when they die.
