I have a stock 17 TRD OR that I replaced the battery in last year. I replaced it with an Odyssey AGM 24F. This morning the truck barely started. Outside temp was around 55f, no lights were left on in the truck, and not running any type of accessories. I drove a mile down the road to take the kids back to school and came home and the battery was reading 12.4v.

After searching the forum, I see a bunch of hacks to up the voltage to better charge the AGM battery, but I see a lot of people have also put in 24F agm as plug and play for the OEM and never had an issue. So I guess either the battery isn't getting what it needs from the alternator? Any other thoughts? I have a basic volt meter and I'm about as handy with it as a monkey with a football. THoughts? thanks

Contact your local tuner, they can help you out with this.

Or you may just have a battery that is going bad.

I don't know the technical terminology for this, but the alternator doesn't put out enough juice for AGM batteries but there is a tune that can make it so it does.

Put a volt meter across the battery terminals when the truck is running. Should be above 14 volts. Below that may be an alternator / voltage regulator issue.

    I don’t think the 3rd gens run at 14v

I remember reading somewhere they only operate and charge in the 12s

I could be very wrong. Just throwing it out there

A good alternator should produce about 13.5 to 14.5 volts with the engine idling. If the voltage reading is low (12.5 volts or less), it indicates a charging problem but does not tell you what's causing it.

was showing 12.4 with the truck running. I'll take it to the stealership I suppose. 70K miles on the truck and the battery is only a year old. Ugh

Modern vehicles read lower when warm, Tacomas don't have amp load sensors, but still run around 13v when warm and idling. Typically you have to add load for them to read over 13.5v

Try yours out to see. I'll try and remember tomorrow to test one.
