**RESOLVED. I was using the distance function, and it is limited to 5 digits. Reset button on right hand side of steering wheel cleared it. I wish it wasn't just another trip meter because it was the metric I used to watch my mileage. Now I'll just be a normal person and read my odometer sans decimal point. :(

I searched the forum briefly and didn't find anything quite like the issue I am having, but as a disclaimer, sorry if I missed a post that already addresses this issue.

Yesterday I hit 10k miles on my 2022 TRD Offroad.... only I didn't. The truck reads 9999.9 now even 50+ miles afterward. The other gauges seem to be functioning fine, although miles to empty isn't updating. When I turn the truck off, the mileage reported is like 10056 or whatever I parked it at today. So that's good, at least it's still being tallied somewhere internally.

So has anyone else had this issue? I thought it might be resolved by turning the truck off and on, but it's been the same now after multiple cycles on and off. My next thought is to disconnect and reconnect the battery before I call the dealer to get it in.

    Thanks for reading.

I would take a big road trip and then take it in:thumbsup: But for real, that is pretty weird

Sounds like it’s still on trip and not odo. I think trip rolls over at 10k though.. or is supposed to.

Time lock. Sounds crazy and I wouldn’t have believed it had I not seen it with my own eyes- dude driving a new Tacoma passes me on the interstate, but he’s not moving, his wheels aren’t rolling. His truck just slid by me like the truck was stuck in time but for the rest of us time was normal.

On a serious note disconnecting the battery to see if that clears it is a good idea, followed by taking it to the dealer to troubleshoot if that doesn’t fix it.

Trip meter is in the 7000's and is separate from the reading I'm referring to. I'll take pics after dinner and show you guys.

When my truck was new the trip meters would randomly reset to zero. Post #350 has a picture of my TSB.

Your situations is different, but imagine Toyota would want to replace your combo meters.

People assume the Tacoma is a truck made of metal and composites and plastics, but actually it's a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff

Can't be the odometer, it only displays full miles, not 1/10 fractions.

Same on my 04 even. No fractions for odometer mileage. Betting the OP has the trip A or B setting displayed and it caps off at 9999.9

Yep, you have to be on one of the two trip meters to get a decimal of a mile.

Interesting... the only reason I'm like not totally sure is because it displays the 9999.9 in the center of my screen, but lower right corner displays Trip A at 7000 some miles, separately. I'll fiddle with it and report back.

Confirmed on that. My 2021 TRD Sport only has whole miles for the odometer and Tenths displayed for both trips A & B. Regards

Leave it alone, your truck will hold its value for a long time.

OK so I'm back after tinkering with my trip meters, and I guess the new existential question is, "What is distance?"

Trip meter A showed 7716.2 miles prior to reset. Trip B showed 69.6 miles prior to reset. Odometer is 10069 (I didn't plan this, I swear). After resetting both trips, the Distance shown on my display is still stuck at 9999.9. I made sure to scroll through all iterations of this display screen and try to reset them, even the one where it shows distance but neither trips nor odometer is visible (blank). After resetting these trips, I did restart the truck and it still showed everything the way I describe.

I went through my settings and checked the list for my Drive Info 1 screen and Distance is selected. There is no standalone option for Odometer on this screen. So what is Distance? Why is it stuck at 9999.9? I've been using this metric to watch my truck's mileage this whole time and now it seems pointless. I know I can just change the display to show something else, which I guess is fine. But like.... why is this happening? Bonus question, how do YOU set up your Tacoma display?

The “distance” maxes out at 9999.9?

I set up my display to show MPGs. I like to play that game.:)

Hold the middle button on the right hand control to reset it. That’s all the digits that’ll fit on the screen

I had mine set to trip distance so it reset every ignition cycle
