When I got my SR5 back in late April, I immediately turned off the lane departure and changed the speedometer/tachometer screen to the "sport" option (red and grey). I also soon after got a Carrista and turned off the back seat nanny so the truck wouldn't beep 5 or 6 times everytime I locked the truck (I always toss my gear in the backseat area for work).

Yesterday, I came out to the truck after lunch, and it started just fine (nothing abnormal that I noticed, or any buttons that I pushed on the steering wheel), but I immediately noticed my speedo/tach went back to the factory default setting (blueish with the wavy background lines), and my lane departure indicator was on the dash screen again. I reset both, and went on my way. When I got home, I get my work gear from the backseat, close the door and lock it with the key fob, and it beeps 5 or 6 times again like it used to when the backseat nanny was turned on.

It's as if my truck was rebooted(?). I kept my Carrista but cancelled the subscription so I guess I'll have to break that out again to turn the stuff off once again, but has this happened to anyone else, and any indication as to why it happened? Kind of annoying actually if its going to do this randomly.

Could be an OTA update happened and reset your settings. Pretty sure you do not need the Carrista for the rear seat reminder.

You're right. I've seen it in the menu and it's on p.641 of the manual.

I'm wondering if an OTA update reset things too, though it seems dumb that it would forget all that. The other thing it could be is that it loaded the wrong driver profile. I've got a driver profile for me and one for my wife, each with different dash settings. I've got it set to tie to a particular key. It almost always loads the correct profile based on who brings their keys, though I have had a couple occasions where it didn't load my profile after my wife drove the truck even though I used my key. I'm pretty sure that her key was still in the house and out of range either time. I had to go select my profile from the menu.

Do you have multiple profiles set up?

I think you can only disable the rear seat reminder temporarily. Might be six months, it should probably be nine months but I think it's a built in saftey you will have to turn it back off. That's how I believe it works on some other manufacturers.

I long for the tech from the late 90's in a stout and well built truck, and really don't care much for most of the added tech this truck offers beyond traction, antilock brakes, and the rearview camera. I didn't even know I could set up separate profiles, and will need to look into that to see if there is any benefit, especially since the SR5 doesn't even offer power seats (memory setting perhaps?). Currently, I'm the only driver of this truck, and I use the same key fob always.

Do Tacomas have OTA updates? I want to say the Tundra does, as Ive heard of glitches here and there.

As far as I've been able to tell, the dash settings are per-profile and you can tie a particular paired phone to the infotainment system per-profile. I mostly did it so it pairs to the correct phone depending on who's driving. It's not a huge deal to switch the phones, but it's a couple menus deep and not something I really want to be bothered to do. If it's just you driving, there's no reason to have multiple profiles.

I suppose it's possible that you've got more than one set up, but it wouldn't have been you doing it. You've have remembered; it's kind of a production.

Could someone tell me where I find the setting to disable the rear seat reminder? I can't find it in the display settings. Is it in the dash settings? I've looked everywhere. Sincerely wish I could disable those beeps. Damn nuisance.

I wonder if the Xtracab has the rear seat reminder? It has no rear seats. The software is probably shared with the DC so the reminder is probably still there. The rear also has what looks like car seat seat anchors to use for tie downs. I thought there was some talk of trying to fit a car seat in the rear of an XC.

If you haven’t figured it out yet you need to find this symbol in the dash settings and simply shut it off.IMG_0022.jpg

Thought I was, going insane this is same thing that happened to me just about a week ago. Very weird and annoying! Dealer looked at it and said it’s nothing Toyota had done but I can’t turn off my reminder now?
