Recently my obd2 reader stopped working in my truck. No other problems with the truck. Checked the fuse under the hood and it was blown. I put a new fuse in and still didn't work. So I figured the female pins in the port had opened up and were not making good connection. After further investigation I found a broken wire. Fixed it with a new end but the port is still not working. I only have a test light but I can't seem to find any power going to any of the wires. I'm not sure which one is supposed to have power. I could really use a chart or something showing the location of all the pins (so I'm sure I put the wire back where it came from) and to also know which wires carry signal/power/ground. I'm a complete novice at wiring. I've always avoided it as much as possible...lol....can anyone point me in the right direction? I have googled everything I know to and I'm having no luck. TIA

I don't know a lot about first gens but is there also a fuse under the dashboard for this too?

Thanks....I did just out of curiosity check the fuses in the cab and they are all good. I'm not sure why there's no power to any of the wires. Probably going to have to get a pro to look at it.

Pin 16 should have power at all times (from OBD Fuse in engine compartment), pins 4 and 5 should be grounded at all times.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The first step is to verify your code reader still works.

Test on another vehicle. I have had them power up give the can not connect signal yet fail to work when another reader is tried all was well on the truck side.

Thanks...this is exactly what I've been looking for. Now to figure out why I don't have power. Fuse is good and has power but no power at the obd port. Again thank you!

Thanks...yes that was actually the first thing I did and the reader works great on every vehicle I've plugged it into. I'm pretty sure something else is wrong. Don't have any power to the obd port though my fuse is good and fuse has power. Again thanks

The fact that the fuse was blown to begin with likely indicates a short in that power wire between the fuse and the OBDII port. If it were me, I'd run a wire directly from a known 12v source (battery) to that #16 pin on the port.

Okay...solved the problem. It appears the scanner I've been using is blowing the fuses. That's what it appears to be anyway. Everything is back together and working with no codes showing. Trucks running great. Thanks EVERYONE for your help!!
