I have never heard of these and I have one because I just got my vehicle inspected in the lovely state of Taxachusetts.
My permanent fault code is 7F 0A 11. Can this be translated to a standard trouble code format? Can I get rid of it?

    Thanks

Most of the permanent codes are all tied to emissions faults within the system. They are intended to be permanent in order to prevent short term fixes of the CEL just to pass inspection. A full drive cycle (defined differently by manufacturer) must be completed within satisfactory parameters to clear the code. Use a code reader on the OBD II to give you a better readout.

See page six for information on permanent codes directly from the Comm of MA..

Seems like you have to make a repair of the condition causing the code. You can’t just use a scan tool to clear it. So in essence, they’re not really permanent...

Here’s some general info on all DTCs:

As for the 7F 0A 11, doesn’t your read out say what needs to be fixed?

In NC, for example, vehicles prior to 01 can have up to 2, Not Ready codes. These systems are the ones associated with EPA emissions. Newer than 01, you can only have one, Not Ready code.

@PzTank no it doesn't tell me... Those are actually 3 numbers in hexadecimal format. Base 16 vs our base 10 decimal system. 7F hex= 127 decimal, 0A= 10 and 11= 17. Confusing to say the least...

Nope. That is why they are called “permanent” codes. They can only be cleared by a complete drive cycle or the manufacturer tech stream.

From what I've read, they can only be cleared by and when the ecu is satisfied that the issue no longer exists
