Does anybody here have a Tab 400 that they tow with their Tacoma?
I just put a down payment on one and it arrives in the spring.
I was curious if I was going to need a WDH or sway control to tow it as it is only probably 3500 lbs loaded.

Toyota says that if the Gross Trailer Weight is over 2,000 lbs, you need a sway control device.
And also says an unbraked weight of 1000 is the the maximum.

You should have trailer brakes and a sway device.

I have personally seen Tacoma trucks pulling smaller campers and utility trailer with no sway device or brakes. That doesn’t mean you should ;)

Information is listed on page 225 of the 2013 Owners Manual.

Also, you’ll find a lot of help over here in the towing forum

I'm also needing a "Sway Control Device", as the manual states. But I've seen everything advertised from some simple replacement bushings , to stabilizer bar links https://www.oreillyauto.com/shop/b/...v/a/18056/automotive-truck-2004-toyota-tacoma
, to full on front and rear anti-sway bar kits. Can you please tell me what I really need to tow a Tab 400? (I'd like to avoid a weight distribution hitch.) Thanks!

This isn’t going to be the answer you want to hear.
The sway control device, is to prevent the trailer from swaying.

The parts you linked above, are to keep the truck from swaying.

Most RV and Camper dealers will know what you need. (If you need it)
Unfortunately, your looking at a weight distributing hitch. If you want to do it right.
They make some very nice low profile clamp on. No drilling required. And the torsion bars are replaceable if you ever decide to buy a different camper.

My advice is - Visit your local RV /Camper dealer.
They should know what you need.

When I had my Taco and a trailer of similar size/weight I opted for a WDH/Sway contol setup. BEST money and piece of mind - Worth every penny. I went with the equal-i-zer and had no complaints. Regardless of the brand, a sway/wdh hitch will make your towing experience so much better.

@TnShooter, Well that was certainly a newbie question, thanks for clarifying!
@unclebuck, thanks for the lead on the equal-i-zer.
    Cheers!
