This old podcast was made in 2010 after NUMMI closed down, but it's still a good listen for anyone interested in the factory where our trucks were made. It's focused on why GM couldn't replicate the success of the NUMMI factory, but we get a bit of history on what made that factory special.

Funny, my second car was a Chevy Nova which was the first car produced by that joint venture. I know one thing for sure Consumer Reports was correct in giving it a great safety rating after being in a head-on crash and walking away uninjured. Too bad that GM didn't learn more from the joint venture, being taught so much about the Japanese process of making quality cars.

These days, it seems like the Japanese have learned GM's way of cost cutting

Sometimes I listen to Cartalk just to hear Tom Magliozzi's laugh, that can brighten any day IMO.

I still have my dad’s NUMMI badge in my desk. Wonder if they’ll let me in. Haha. Just pretend I’m really really late for work.

My truck was sold at the Fremont Toyota, they must’ve driven it straight off the assembly line the 2.4 miles to the dealership.

They were all made there. The entire first generation of Tacoma was.

I believe 2nd gen up to 2010 was too.

They may have a liberal bend on what they choose to report on, but that reporting is at least fact based. You only other option are the far left/right programs that just spend the entire time yelling into the microphone. I can't stand Fox or MSNBC.

i prefer more fair and balanced to get a better opinion, need to hear both sides! ... its unfortunate that the other side rarely if ever goes to discuss on the other side
