I had my windshield replaced a few months ago by safe light . They replaced it with a fuyao windshield . I’m getting a lot of glare and phantom lines at night worse when it rains and visibility is really bad when raining . I have tried different window cleaners and wipers to address the issue . you guys think safe light will replace the windshield as a defective item or is this normal for a aftermarket windshield ? My oem never did this .

Safelite will either give you a FUYOU or a Pilkington.

BTW my 2022 has Pilkington as OEM glass.

Interesting. I have had two of those in my Taco so far. No issues with the second, but I did have streaking issues with the first one. I used Bar Keepers Friend to clean it up. No issues after that. Gotta be careful not to hit the paint with it, as it seems mildly abrasive?

Overall, these windshields seem to hold up a bit better than the original or replacement Pilkingtons. But then, that could just come down to (bad) luck?

All - I am getting my windshield replaced today. I found a local place that will replace the windshield with either FUYOU or Pilkington. I am completely strapped for cash during this holiday season, so they have two pricing options. $560 to replace the glass but no calibration of the lane departure. They said the lane departure may or may not work properly afterwords. If it does not work, I just simply bring the truck back to them and they will calibrate for $400.

My question to the group is, has anyone had any first and experience replacing the windshield and skipping the calibration? Just curious if I am making a mistake not getting the calibration done right there and then.

I think it was said that if they do not unplug the camera, you should not have an issue with the replacement.

Also, the dealer may charge a lot less or even call it a warranty issue if needed?

I have Geico and when I got my factory glass replaced I requested OEM only and at a local shop (installed inside and not in a random parking lot). Geico covered Pilkington that even had the Toyota logo on the glass.

Would never go with the garbage that Safelite will install if left to their own decision.

This right here.. If I am going to pay that much for a new windshield I want it done indoors with proper lighting and no elements. I always thought the tents were fine for dings, but totally janky to replace the whole windshield. Don't miss my Jeep Wrangler's issue of going through busted windshields every other month!

Good news is (if anyone cares) the sensor works just fine and I didn't have to pay $400 to get it re-calibrated! Small paint scrape from the removal of the old one but oh well. I'm past the point of caring about every little ding and scratch on mine, thank god.

I had safelite replace the windshield in my previous vehicle and he wore a carhart while doing it. Why is that important? He left the jacket unzipped and was rubbing up and down my fenders, hood, doors, and the pillars. There was paint scratched off on every piece he touched. Took over a month to get them to cover the damage and ONLY because we had security cameras at work that showed it happen. Luckily I noticed it before he finished and I signed the work order saying it was done to my satisfaction.

Yea. I got mine done last winter. It was about 25-40F outside at the time they did the work in the shop that morning. No way would I trust adhesive applied outside vs inside where they let it set inside all day.

Not to mention it was a well established local glass company vs a usually sketchy dude in a van.
