Hey everyone! I'm new to the Tacoma scene (07 TRD Off-Road DCSB that I've had for about a month) but I'm looking for any recommended trails in Northwest Indiana. Eventually, I'd like to have the truck setup enough for some long excursions out west, but for now some easy to moderate trails in the area would due. Looking for some place to go for a day to do a little off-roading, see some sweet views and possibly camp out. I know there is always the Bad Lands Off Road park, but looking for something a little more private. Hoping to go out in the late spring after everything thaws and isn't tooooo sloppy. Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm actually about 20 min outside of Chicago, but some traveling doesn't bother me so long as the trails are worth it.

If you do facebook, search Midwest Off road and Midwest Overlanders.

Not much besides the ORPs or fire roads in Hoosier National Forest. Multitudes of options in Kentucky and Michigan.

I'm originally from Southern Indiana. Now in Kentucky. Very off road friendly State.

Thanks @Bluegrass Taco! I'll have to check them out. I do love Kentucky...so a trip down there for some off-roading would be well worth it!

Awesome! If nothing else, we can always do badlands. I just feel like that's where everybody goes, and it's be fun to find some OHV trails or something else to do.

Might want to keep an eye on this thread:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/chicagoland-area-members.46428/

I personally post there whenever there is an event at badlands and people are not on Facebook.

I would say that aside from Midwest off road and Midwest overlanding, this is the most active group encompassing everything Toyota locally:

Badlands and Redbird are reasonably close to you. MWO has spring meets scheduled at both.

Also near Indy, and would love to find somewhere to get my Taco dirty. I used to race at Haspen and Ive been to Badlands a few times to ride but ive been out of the game for a while and never owned anything but ATV's and dirt bikes until now. Anyone have any dirt road maps with water crossings down in Hoosier national?

There's not much in NWI for wheeling legally. Your best bet is either Silverlake in Michigan or the Badlands. Going south into KY opens things up a ton. There is a ton of wheeling down there and TN.

Ripped off all four mudflaps. Scratches all down both sides 6112’s up front on 3rd notch 5100’s in back with Toytech 1” block Skids & sliders from SOS Concepts I got rid of the 1” block and put on Wheelers 1 1/2” progressive AAL. SPC UCA. Be sure your standing on the drivers side when reading the instructions! I swapped sides so many times that I can swap UCA’s in 15 minutes. I put in the 3/4” spacer to eliminate the Taco Lean, and just got my 4th alignment. Traded the OEM rims for 17” Sport rims and a bora bora 1” spacer. I got my Firestone 285/70/17 MT2’s. Pelfreybilt gas tank skid and hi-lift jack should be here Friday. Looking at bumpers, but I think they will wait for next year. So far I’m happy with my build. I’ve done it all myself, leading to a lot of cussing and frustration, but it’s all mine.
BB9AB8B2-C132-4744-924D-712049D06F92.jpg I can’t imagine taking a screenshot from over there, then uploading it over here is any easier than just learning how to copy and send a link. Anyhow,,,,, there’s this.

Oh ya, planning to meet up at Badlands next Sunday with a fellow from the MWO forums. He’s a jeeper and I hope like hell to pull him out of a hole. I’m due dammit! Holler if any you can make it. I’ll accept any lessons I can get.
Gonna plug GSMTR in May. Registration is open.

Just seen this. I’m planning on heading to Kentucky(Slade to be specific)in a couple weeks and running the Daniel Boone Backcounty Byway, solo. It’s a hell of a lot closer for you than I lol. Plenty of primitive camping and things to do. There’s also the Kentucky Adventure Tour that I might run part of depending on time. There’s some waterfall hikes I’m going to hit while I’m down in the area. I’m friends with a guy on IG that runs the DBBB all the time and he said I’d have no issues running it in my taco. There’s a beautiful cliff you can drive upto and camp out on. Might be worth looking into for you. In Iowa, I have no choice but to drive hours to do anything cool unfortunately.

Awesome to hear @Fortunt1 I will definitely add this to my list. I enjoy hiking as well, and especially if there is some beautiful scenery like cliffs and waterfalls.
