There are also nice camping spots out at Sly park recreation area/Jenkinson lake. These have bathrooms but are reservation based for the campsites (I believe these are vault toilets). Multiple campsites next to each other though. Right on the water and into the summer the lake gets nice and warm as it is small. Has a biking/hiking path around the entire lake that follows the water. Good place to bike also.

Side note: There are multiple capsites around the lake and you can find Ones that are on the beach or set back into the woods a little bit. These are on the north side of the lake on the extension. Group campsites are also available on the southern side. Group campsite 5 is the best group campsite by far, 5-50 people and set away from the other groups. Reservations for these open 14 months ahead of time though.

Woodward Reservoir in Oakdale has plenty of secluded spots, and full facilities.

Sounds more like you are describing your town. The spot is perfect for his stated use, and we fill it routinely with 10,000+ folks who are more than happy with the location for camping and partying.

Im still in SF east bay for a few weeks, most everything here smells musty when you get out of the truck (both bay mud and shit they dump in the "creeks") and people piss everywhere.

But you can camp fucking ANYWHERE - under freeways and in abandoned former industrial neighborhoods preferred.

We throw parties out there, it is the perfect venue for 10, 20+ thousand hippies to... be festive. It has facilities and the terrain is gentle with nice views for a warm spring of sitting around and enjoying our existence.

On the other hand I have not spent much time on the public side, just the East (special events) side.

Ahh. That makes sense. Wife said the same thing. We went on the public side and it was not pretty.

What do you expect? The best part of Stanislaus county is the county line.

I can confirm this. Been a few times in the summer and it really depends on what part of the lake and time. Weekends in the summer suck. water is fine but you end up camping relatively close to others, there are out houses but in the summary when its busy, it smells and i've seen people completely miss the toilet and go in the corner and I have no idea why.

Would I go back? probably but bringing my own toilet to avoid the outhouses.

OP - I love hearing this and seeing you're going to take out your neighbor. I'd highly consider getting one of those portable toilet things people mention (specifically the taller one linked) and a "poop tent" to use it in. This way you guys can a nice secluded camp spot but dont have to worry about the bathroom.

    OME and worth every penny.
    You might ask her first.
I miss camping but what I mean is I miss being able to handle no conveniences. I don't ever want to actually do it again and I'm a 1/3rd younger
