Brrrr. Cold this morning. Stayed in bed longer. But I did drag ass to a lake. Caught a dink right off so. - no skunk. Phew!

I paddled around avoiding the only other two guys out there. I asked, only dinks so far for them. I shit you not. I go past them, cast, and the scream of my drag sounded across the lake. Me going, “don’t come off, don’t come off........big bass bis bass....”. Was probably annoying. Haha. I got a decent fish! And one that had some fight! Netted him, and fist pumped the sky in jubilation. Damn I love fishing.

I hate my spinning rod. I could feel the reel shift in the rod seat as I fought it. And casting and finessing; , my hand goes numb! Ridiculous! Where I like to place my hand around the reel is so narrow, my hands go to sleep. Nevertheless, that rod has bass-stink all over it. I just got it and I bet I have 20 good bass on it. :). But i retired it. A numb hand isn’t cool.

I got home, blew leaves around and into my green bin and I git a delivery. My new rod showed up. And fast! I might need to go fish tomorrow. Hehe

pics. I ended up with only 4 fish. I lost a whopper. He broke me off right when I set the hook. I sucked at that knot. I should have checked it.

A bit hard to tell from the picture angle, but caught my first brook trout this past weekend. We ended up getting a couple more but they either spit the bait or broke off (one of mine did while trying to get it to shore). Good times!

Clearlake was slow. But the fish we got were very good fish. I beat my PB, which happened to be was my first fish this morning - with my last fish today. I stomped on my PB. My new Best bass will be very tough to beat. Damn.

Hey at least you got a new PB! Badass. Sounds like a good time out there. It’s been cold the last few days... can only imagine what it’s done to the fish pattern.

Anyone else anxiously waiting for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals coming up? I don’t really need anything right now, but best believe I’ll be scooping something up if it’s on sale.

I never do. But I need one more thing. What’s the best strategy for shopping and finding the deals?

Not much of a strategy I have found... and now this year it appears lots of places won’t be open in-person as covid cases go back up. I’m hearing Tacklewarehouse is gonna have some good deals coming up soon. I’ll likely order from them if they have a good discount on goodies.

total skunkage saturday. it was still very enjoyable, and it's nice to be reminded of my humanity..and the humility is appreciated.

My lady and I took a trip up to the Redwoods (near Crescent City) this past weekend and at one point we found a small trail that led to the edge of the Smith River.

We got out and hiked around, played with the dog, and I managed to get a few casts in. I ended up with a few small rainbow trout and a couple major “thunks” that about took my rod out of my hands. I assume those were salmon bites since they’re running up there now.

Damn. My experience on the Yuba during salmon spawning season is to throw an egg pattern out there. Trout love salmon eggs. Tough to catch and release with a treble hook, though. Didn't know those were allowed on the Smith.

Funny.. while out there throwing a line, US Park Ranger pulled up and checked my license. Since it's season, he asked for my steelhead card and if I had barbless hooks on my spinner. I had pinched my barbs, but didnt have a card, but showed him my gear and told him I was just going for some rainbow or cutthroat. He was cool and told me season had just opened for salmon, so the rangers were out THICK checking licenses and gear. Salmon were jumping everywhere while we were standing there talking. Kinda funny.

Totally. When he first pulled up I was like; "FUCCCKKKKKK!" But after we started gabbing, he was chill about it and realized I wasn't doing anything bad. I mean one look at the gear I had and that was the dead giveaway that I wasnt going for anything but small trout. A small medium action spinning rod and 6lb test. lol.
