I got into a great popper bite yesterday. bass of mostly below average size, with a few 2lb fish. this is my first ever popper fish. it is mind boggling how the brain tingles from the anticipation of a hit. I let my guard down twice and missed the fish and the excitement alltogether. I held my breath a lot.

while everyone's going out for salmon, hali, rockfish and perch, giving some relief on the crab scene. managed to pull in 7 keeper brown and red rock crabs.

and plus dragged in something super heavy, maybe someone's lost crab trap or else a rock crab wedged my snare in a rock. it was snagged like big-time, and i tried to release pressure, in case it was a rock crab latched on the rocks. these guys are strong. I tried giving some slack and doing sideways for a different angle. the 11' FT surf rod was bent, but nothing was giving way. 40lb braid, battle 2 5000, big-ass salt water swivel, and 14ga. snare, let me pull it in almost the entire way. too bad i didnt have my gopro with me, that rod was bent!! once I got whatever it was off the floor (maybe i had to free it from partial bury in the sand?), it was slowly being reeled in. but if i let of the crank, it sank pretty quickly. maybe a lost anchor? or a crab trap is my guess.

holy shit. things are looking up!!! rain is really affecting lake levels this time. With the exception of Clearlake, the lakes are coming up quick.

Lake Sonoma came up 11 feet in two days. not enough to open the north end of the lake, but anything helps. and I dont think winter rain is done yet.
