My Son’s 2016 Tacoma TRD was lifted four years ago, 275/70R/ 17. Never had any tire rubbing.
I purchase a JBA UCA for his Birthday, We got it install a few days ago. Today I pick up his truck after a wheel alignment.
Once we hit a bit of dirt roads , we got tire rubbing the fenders!

    What happen?

Why NO tires rubbing for four years! After the UCA was install , tires rubbing inside fenders.

I am guessing it has more wheel travel?

Be aware the stock UCA may be better?

    Stock-ish
Jba arms add castor at the Uca, which actually pushes the tire closer to the firewall compaired to stock so thats what is causing the rubbing.

Did they use factory specs to align the truck?

Just a thought, maybe your alignment specs are off since the new uca. Just a thought but maybe, just maybe an adjustment might fix it, but its just a guess.

You changed the geometry of the suspension. There is no more travel than before but the travel is in a different location in the wheel well. Post up your alignment numbers. Why did you put UCA's on it to begin with?

    Edited after coffee...

To clarify, the first poster is correct. When you put on the new UCAs, caster was increased by moving the upper ball joint BACK towards the cabin mount, thus increasing the caster angle. The 2nd poster would be correct if you were using the OEM LCA eccentrics to increase caster by pushing the lower ball joint forward, thus increasing the caster angle.

Yup, on top of the Jba's, the shop probably tried to bring the castor way down to factory spec, thus moving the wheel even further back.

Same thing happened to mine. Installed Bilstein 6112/5160 with 285/70 17 and had zero rub. Add Icon Delta Joint UCAs and rubs on tight turns or big bumps. A bit disappointed, planning for trimming and CMC to resolve.

You have to get the alignment shop to push the wheels forward with the LCA eccentrics. It will no longer be a "factory" alignment. You need to get the caster set to about 4deg (factory is 2-2.5, and it will rub at 2-2.5)

You need to follow JBAS alinement specs. They have their own spec guide. Have it printed out on paper in my truck.

As the others have said, they need to be realigned to have the caster increased (if you chose the high caster version). If they aligned back to factory specs you will rub 100%. With my JBA's I'm at 4.2° caster. With that tire size, any caster above ~3.5° should pretty much eliminate the rear rubbing issue, but may vary based on lift and wheel offset.

These trucks are very finicky with alignment, after the shop aligns it, have them back it off the alignment rack to destress the suspension, then pull it back on and check again.

    Wow! Great feedbacks. Thank you!
I have the alignment papers all “green”
I did not realize aftermarket UCA , like the JBA push the tires closer to the fender wells.

OK next step inside fender trimmings.
The bright red JBA’s looks “Cool”, stands out!

Hopefully… Your answers & solutions will help future Tacoma owners when installing aftermarket UCAs. “Mahalos”

Thank you. We are just going to trim the inside fenders. Sure the video above is very convincing.

I am wondering if it is true the video above . Why are there over a dozen aftermarket parts claiming improvements?

Many of those well known companies have experts designing there UCAs . If the stock ones perform just as good as the AFTERMARKETS, why would there be so many UCAs on the markets?

The big reason to change the UCA is to gain tire clearance/drivability via increased caster, increased strength, and increased articulation. JBA high caster accomplishes all 3, I'm a little bias though.

I think the videos I posted answer your question. Most (all?) of the aftermarket UCAs have added caster to help keep your caster in spec after a lift. Some also provide extra adjustability to allow you to more easily fit larger tires or other custom modifications. Some come with different types of joints (eg uniball) that have advantages (and disadvantages).

Some have added clearance to fit larger coil springs and/or longer travel shocks, but the videos call that into question. It’s good to point out that the videos are not specific to a Tacoma. I think he has an FJ cruiser. It’s unclear how much applies to the Tacoma.
