No Start After Filling Gas

2019 Tacoma with 40,000 miles would not start for 45min after filling up gas tank 2 days ago. Check engine light turned on and I have a bazillion codes. (see pictures)

A quick online search points toward evap purge valve as the problem and solution. A local mechanic suggested the same thing. I took my vehicle system report to Toyota to see if the problem(s) might be covered under warranty. They need to diagnose ($$$) the problem before confirming or denying warranty coverage.

I would like to gather some opinions and see what information overlaps to use as a starting point before moving forward.

Did you always top off you fuel tank when filling up? You know, after the nozzle shuts off you add more fuel a few times.

 

I usually do not. Once in a while, I do to round up the dollar amount to a whole number for no logical reason.

I should have clarified I did not top it off this time. Not sure if that changes your conclusion. Also, do you think overfilling would cause an ongoing problem? Check engine light with all these codes still on.

don't do that. it damages it.

 

Lesson learned. Damages what exactly though?

 

the vapor canister gets soaked in fuel and throws a bunch of codes. the charcoal from the vapor canister gets pushed up into the vent valve and now it won't close properly. i haven't had this issue but tons of others people have.

With that many codes you can't really expect the dealer to know if it's under warranty or not. They (or somebody) needs to do some troubleshooting

A leaking purge valve is common though, and will cause similar no start symptoms

And yes, don't overfill the tank

 

Agreed. I just took the truck to the dealer to see what they would say.

 

Had a similar issue in my Chevy Impala, it didn't last 45 minutes but always had a hard time starting after a fill-up. It ended up being the Evaporating system solenoid, a $35 part in Amazon and easy DIY procedure after youtubing it. Get ready for the dealer to start blaming fuel injectors, that's what AutoNation did in my case.

Part #25860-0P090 fixed my problem.

 

Could be a bad gas cap seal

 

Yeah, I tried replacing the gas cap first. It made no difference. I replaced the part number in my previous post. Everything is fine now.
