My 2006 tacoma with orginal factory radio has no power to it and won't turn on. It is the JBL 6 disc cd changer. I checked the 2 radio fuses under the hood and they are good. I took the radio out of the dash to look at it, and everything seemed fine. When I plugged the left connector back in, power came to the head unit, and all seemed fine again. Drove 10 mins away, shut off the truck, came back outside 30 mins later, and no power to radio again. When I got home, took the radio out of the dash again, unplugged the connectors, plugged them back in, and wouldn't work. After 30 more minuntes messing with the truck, finally got the radio to power back on just by plugging in the connector (but the other 30 times I tried to plug it back in, radio would not power on). Put everything back, turned on and off the truck 4 times and everything worked. Went inside and came back an hour later, no power to the radio again!!

    Please help

P.S. I searched the forum first before posting and could not find anything close to what I have.

My 2012 does the same thing. I think it's an issue inside the radio itself. Might want to try picking up a used one off the interwebs.

Have you tested for steady 12V going to the HU? If you've got 12V the whole time and the radio doesn't work, then I would agree with the above poster that your HU is the problem.

Assuming you've checked voltage at the plugs by this point, and it's always ok, it's in the radio.

Your choices are having the unit repaired or replacing it.

Repairs are usually pricey unless you know a tech type with the right gear to work on it. Your bargain bet is to replace via eBay or something, or to pick up an aftermarket unit of some type.

I will check for the voltage. If it is the radio, does anyone know exactly what is wrong inside? Can I replace or fix something inside the radio itself? I took apart the case (sheet metal pieces of the radio) today, to see if the connectors were binding or broken, which they were not.

I'm pretty sure all electronic devices work on magic, might want to try some pixie dust.

Brother, with an 06 you can find infinitely better single or double din units with installation kits/wiring harnesses for aprox $150. Make sure it is the radio and not some other electrical gremlin first.

Truth be told, all electronic devices are powered by smoke. If you let the smoke out, they no longer work.

My 2010 radio will intermittently lose power. Just out of the blue turn off. After a couple pushes on the power button it will be back on and playing. I think it's just something in the radio going bad.

Great, not only do I have to find some pixie dust, but now I have to put the smoke back in the radio. This is going to be challenging. Does the factory service manual explain how to do any of this? Thanks for all the advice.

My JBL stopped working. It won't turn on. I checked the white power wire and there is no power to the head unit. What should I do?

Usually a white wire with a lavender stripe is power from the Radio No.2 fuse to the component amplifier and the stereo is powered by the Radio No.1 Fuse which is lavender with a yellow stripe. The stereo also has power from the ACC Fuse going through a gray wire.

Here. Look in the lower left corner and you will see the Radio # 1 and Radio # 2 Fuse locations in the under the hood fuse panel. Use a multimeter and check the continuity ( resistance ). It should read near zero, if the meter says OL or a high resistance it is blown.
