Leaving my friends house started my truck np. As I'm driving home I notice I have no tach or temp gauge, but its driving fine I get home pull in to the garage and shut it off look for lose connections nothing obvious. I go to start the truck and nothing NO dash lights not even a click from the starter nothing. The door chime and dome light stay on. Chime does not go away even when key is in on position. Checked ignition switch seams ok. Also checked ignition fuses under dash... battery is good, head lights ect. Work fine
Kind of lost what else to check...

My first thought Does the truck have a alarm or parts of one??

Time to break out the multi Meter check voltages and the main grounds .

When you say the tach and temp gauge did not work the needles did not move??

No alarms. Batt voltage is good dome light, headlight ect all work. Started and drove home fine besides no tach and temp gauge. After I shut it off went to re start and nothing no lights on the dash no start just nothing. I'm thinking ignition switch...of course my DMM is acting up..

But if it is a bad ignition switch why would the temp gauge and tach not work.

Are your tail lights out as well?
Dash lights and tail lights are the same fuse.

Battery voltage might be good with no load, but drop with any load. Did you try to jump start it? It certainly sounds like a bad battery or bad connection to the battery. Any corrosion on the terminals? Like someone else said, it could be the alternator and you were able to run off the battery just long enough to get home, but it discharged.

But why is there no lights on the dash when I turn the key to the on position theres nothing and with the door open the door chime dosent stop. It's as if the ignition switch is not working. There is power to the switch but I haven't had a chance to test any thing else.

Sounds like a ground issue.. anything aftermarket up under the dash?

Nothing under the dash head unit still works fine. Headlight, blinkers, hazards, wipers, dome light, a/c blower ect all work fine. Nothing on the gauges works and no crank no start. Nothing happens when I turn the key. That's why I'm leading towards ignition switch. But the no tach and temp gauge is throwing me off.

Do your tail lights still work?

This thread might have some helpful info.

Figured it out. It was the blown 10amp gauge fuse under the drivers side dash. It must also tie into the ignition system not sure exactly how but Changed fuse truck starts and all gauges work fine.

    Glad you found it.

Always check the easy things first.

What caused the fuse to open??

@Wyoming09 not sure...I cleaned up the main ground off the batt. And terminals.
