I ordered a Reg Cab 4x4 about a month ago and it is a 6-8 week wait on this particular configuration.
I call the dealership today for a update and got into a interesting conversation about the mighty little 4x4.

He said 2014 is the last year for the regular cab Tacoma, no more will be built in 2015.

I've always wanted the little I4 manual tranny 4x4 regular cab and am extremely happy knowing I got one before the cut-off.
I am actually down grading from a very nice Tundra limited 4x4 but something in my bones told me to jump to the little Taco and I'm glad I didn't just keep dreaming about one.

I'm not certain but this should be the end of a era of about a 35 year production run in this configuration.

Moral of the story if you have ever wanted the tiny Taco you better hurry before it's to late.

Ya, I was wondering myself and hope it isn't true but it was the sales manager telling me this and he has no reason to pressure me as the have my down payment and know I have a cashiers check for the balance.

One other tidbit that might support this is that if one goes to the website to build a reg cab, unlike the other models, one is directed only to the available stock.

Toyota announced this some time ago, along with the announcement that the FJ Cruiser would be discontinued after the '14 model run.

Anyone have the direct link to where "Toyota" said no more reg cabs?

If not then this thread is pointless.

Must not be selling as well as the Access and Double cabs. Makes sense to me, I don't like the regular cab. The access cab is great if you don't need the extra space for a ton of passengers but still want a little extra storage inside the cab. Too bad for the people who want one though. They're great if you don't need a lot of storage and want a nice 4x4 or a bed for hauling some bigger equipment or whatever.

I'm glad I just bought my 14 if this is true! Hopefully it's not or they bring them back when I wear this one out. I know they make the access cab and double cab but for a guy like me that doesn't need or want that why would I wanna pay for it?

Is this true? No reg cab Tacoma in 2015? Has there been an official release from Toyota that someone can point me to? I am considering replacing my 03 reg cab Tacoma with another. But wanted to wait a year or more to do so.

I don't know of any solid proof, but I wouldn't surprise me since they already don't make or sale many of them.

    Not enough...
I don't know if i believe this. Why would Toyota shoot itself in the foot and stop selling those? Regular cab 2WD trucks are all the rage in small delivery/commercial fleet sales still.

Exactly, the AC is roughly $2-3K more. For a business buying a fleet, that's a lot of money to fork out, if you don't NEED a reg cab.

I think Toyota is learning from Ford, cut the people off at the knees, and force them into our larger more profitable offerings. I'm sure the reg/cab Tundra will carry on. I've already started to see many landscaping & pest control companies using the Tundra/ F-150 reg cab trucks.

The real answer though is the government /EPA. Supposedly they are or already do measure greenhouse emissions based on vehicle footprint, for lack of more in-depth technical explanation. Since the Reg/Cab Tacoma is roughly the same weight and footprint of a Camry, it gets considerably worse mpg's, and has even worse emissions. This is hurting Toyota's greenhouse emissions requirement/ scores. The company, like many other companies are probably paying a hefty fine for continuing to build them.

As an example, companies like Mercedes & BMW pay millions of dollars in fines on their ultra high-performance models like the AMG cars & M\\ performance cars from BMW. They have awful emissions, get 10-15 mpg, but are priced $70- over $100K, so the brand makes a crap load of money to offset government fines. Toyota just can't make enough money to offset these implications on a $20K truck, with a narrow profit margin.

You can imagine, the decision to discontinue the Fj series was probably more of the same reason. It won't be long, before there is only one configuration, drivetrain to chose from. To be honest, I'm surprised that there will even be a Tacoma after the 2nd gen, but I doubt a 4th after the 3rd.

As long as it was 4x4, and short bed, it would be awesome. Of course, It wouldn't make great family vehicle like my double cab does, but it would be a way to relive the days of being carefree and single when I had my '83 hilux.

What Pool Runner described is essentially what the dealer told me when I bought the last one on the lot....he thought the 5 lug sc would continue as a fleet vehicle for two more years.
