I got a letter in the mail saying my taco had the fuel pump recall and no remedy was available.
I checked today, as of 8/29/20, I don’t have the recall anymore.
I’m actually glad because I hate going to the dealer for service.

Interesting. Maybe they cross referenced batch numbers and found that your model and year wasn’t affected by bad fuel pumps?

It's likely only v6 fuel pumps. 2018-19 models first. There's no update yet on them.

My dad's 16 has had three replacement fuel pumps within 80k miles. The first two were under warranty, the third not. It needs a fourth. Even if you replace it, it'll happen again, so don't worry! It would've been wasted anyhow.

I have a lot of trouble understanding how three fuel pumps can go bad on one vehicle. There's more to your father's issue than the pump.

I agree, but if you can figure it out I'm all ears. The breather to the fuel tank was full of dust, so it was replaced (by me) with a replaceable breather. I imagine overpressuring the tank could have had something to do with the OEM and the first replacement, but it was changed after that and shouldn't have affected the other two.

I buy my fuel at the same place he does, and I've never had a fuel pump replaced on my truck (13). The truck is also idling weird (jumps up, or down 500 rpm from where it should idle) at random.

Really, all around, just a piece of junk truck. Toyota screwed the pooch on the 3rd gen

I’m at the dealership now for something else and I asked about it. They said still pending but no resolution as of now.

I also got a letter but checked Toyota Owners web site and the recall has been removed.

Maybe Toyota decided that replacing them on a case by case basis was cheaper than a recall?

I just checked the Toyota Owners page and mine still has an active recall listed.

    My VIN still shows this:

    Title
Safety Recall 20TA02 (Interim Notice 20TB02), Multiple Model and Model Years, Vehicle May Stall During Driving at Higher Speed
    Status
    Remedy Not Available
    Description
The subject vehicles are equipped with a low-pressure fuel pump which may stop operating. If this were to occur, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel, and the engine may run rough. This may result in a vehicle stall, and the vehicle may be unable to be restarted.
    Remedy
Toyota is currently preparing the remedy. When the remedy becomes available, any authorized Toyota dealers will replace the low-pressure fuel pump with an improved one FREE OF CHARGE.

I received my recall letter in May. They said, stand by, we’ll let you know when to make your appt. Fast forward to now. I’m making a 32000km service appt at my dealer and the service mgr says out of the blue that there is a fuel pump recall on my vehicle, he’ll order the parts and do the replacement at the same time as the service. I wonder if he’s ordering one of the new fuel pumps or just ordering a new old type? Guess I’ll find out when I go for the service.

I brought my truck in for the 20,000 mile service yesterday and the dealer called me a few hours after I dropped it off to inform me of the recall. Service writer said the recall has to be completed in two parts and they could only do "part 1". When I went back later to pick up my truck I asked when "part 2" would be ready and the service writer told me that Toyota has no idea how to fix the recall and does not have the replacement parts, so they cannot do "part 2" of the recall. He confirmed that my fuel pump is indeed part of the recall. Apparently "part 1" was just a visual inspection to confirm the pump is part of the recall.

It's weird, because I have a good friend with a 4Runner and his fuel pump has already been replaced under recall. Not sure why the fix for the Tacoma is taking so long.
