I’m not sure if anyone else has seen it but the main trail up to the quarry in Dorset, VT has been blocked with ditches and gated off permanently. From what I’ve heard the town got sick of people trashing the place and leaving garbage so they shut it down.

    It’s a sad day.

Out west the USFS is dynamiting a hot spring on the Umpqua River for similar reasons.

Sadly too many people have no respect for locals nature and civility.

We have had more that a few nice places closed to everyone, because of the actions of a few ignorant selfish donkeys

Yeah, I was up there last summer and there was a lot of trash left by a Jeep group that was up there when I arrived. My wife made some comments about it and we picked up what we could but I guess it didn’t stop.

So this is the 3rd time I've heard of a place shutting down this year and the 3rd time that I've heard Jeeps are somehow involved.
Maybe the Jeep clubs should do something about this....
Or do they all have no class?

I am a trout fisherman, I spend as much time fishing as I do picking up garbage. It’s just sick how people think it’s ok to trash a place. Sad state of affairs.

Can't say 'all', but in my experience, 99.85% are self absorbed douches that act as if their overpriced mall crawlers make them "special", angry bird grills and all..

Damn dude, what a friggin bummer. Was kind of a cool place to check out.

It sucks so much when assholes trash places, leaves the rest of us out of luck. I remember when we were there there a few years ago, there had been a bunch of pallet fires right in the center. Tons of nails all over the place, but luckily not too much other trash.

And yes, I hate to 'stereo-type' but it does seem like there's usually a Heep involved with shitty situations like this

Such a bummer, people are just assholes

    Damn.

definitely a trash problem but I’ll keep my comments to myself about the “locals” (*cough* non locals buy weekend houses and then complain that people use the off road trails for off roading *cough*)

shiiiiiiit seriously? I’m going that way in a few weeks I’ll swing by the northern trail head that I know of if I can swing it.

I heard this too. Never made it there myself. This one has had a bunch of contradicting info from what I’ve seen on the VT off-roading groups. Some say it’s closed, some say it’s not. Everyone claims to have heard it from staties or fish and game but definitive info is hard to come by.

A lot of places in southern NH are on the brink of closing too. Going to the point of abutting landowners throwing nails and shit in the mud to keep people away.

I get them trying to keep people away but what happens when they need to get through, or a local needs to get threw???
This makes as munch sense as a termite choking on a splinter!

Full size use on Sucker pond trail is not listed on the MVUM for the Green Mt forest. I don’t think it has for a while, at least as far back as I remember checking. There was a push to shut it down 10-15 years ago due to overuse and people riding off trail causing issues. It’s one of those trails that is well known and used even though it’s not quite legal anymore.

Rumor has it - it's an angry land owner, and not the town itself. The town owns the land, it's an abutting land owner.

Sounds like the town doesn't have motivation to stop them though, sounds like they've wanted to stop access for a while but had no real legal footing, so they're kinda just letting it happen for now.
