Your propaganda article is interesting but as with the others who commented at the end of the article when I changed my fuel filter on my 2000 Taco it was full of dark brown crude. I can't change it on my 2008 obviously so it make me wonder.

this is funny. many manufacturers have been doing this for a while. while its not the best idea IMHO, it is what it is.

If you want to change the fuel filter, you'll need to get a fuel pump upgrade kit. From URD. Part of that kit is relocating the fuel filter externally.

All in all it is much cheaper than replacing the whole pump assembly from Toyota.

Or get extensive and do this.

Side note, the Hilux has an external filter, in the engine bay.

Came out of a fuel filter. Car in back ground ran MUCH better after replacement.

As with everything in life, it depends on the circumstances.

I would bet part of this is because Hiluxes seem to end up in the shittiest parts of the world where fuel stations may not have the best underground tank maintenance.

    It's
It's because they run a common rail diesel. Contaminates in the diesel would literally water jet the Pistons because they run over 20k psi injector pressure. It's ultra important to change your filter if you run diesel instead of gasoline.

Yep, it can be the fuel filter, but it shouldn't be the first suspect as is often suggested here.

If your fuel tank is that filthy something else is going on beside filter change interval.

No I change my oil once a year or 25000 miles AMSOIL while doing the yearly oil change I thought about the fuel filter not out of the loop as you so well put it I truly had no idea that any auto maker would not use a replacable Fuel filter all other vehicles I have had from Toyota has had one and the 2010 sport I got used with 3500 miles on it 5 years ago I just wanted to change the fuel filter not knowing there isn't one I have been educated :eek::)
