I have a question I hope someone can answer. I’m in the market for a 1st gen regular cab Tacoma year 2001-2004 that is 4wd and have been browsing the web to see what’s around. I’ve ran in to a couple that do not have fender flares??? I really dig the non plastic fender flare look on the 4wd reg cabs...but have noticed how rare and hard to find they are. Is this an option that came stock from Toyota? Or did someone have to remove the fender flares and fill/paint the holes? Thanks

Ps: both trucks I came across were 4wd and year 2002 and 2004. I know most without flares are rear wheel drives.

I’ve seen a few without fender flares. They weren’t modified, that was some sort of “base” trim level. Most of the 01-04 regular cab 4X4’s are like mine with fender flares, tachometer, bench seat and black grille & bumpers. Then there’s a trim level with fender flares, bucket seats & chrome bumpers.

Good luck in your quest, I hope you find what you want. I bought a newer double cab Tacoma once because I was impatient. I ended up regretting it because what I really always wanted was a white 1st gen regular cab 4X4. Now I have one and it’s my favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned.

I've seen a few of those too; all of them had 15" steelies with small tires (225/75r15), like the pic below, so I'm sure that was part of the ultimate poverty spec package. They do look cool though. I wish Toyota could've come up with a way to affix the fender flares without punching huge ugly square holes in the fender, because I'd probably remove mine.

My 2000 just had chrome pieces held on with clips that bolted inside the wheel well

I think there is one still attached the other 3 fell off or were hit by those evil deer
