I was unaware that I had a chrome ring on my power mirror switch until I saw this thread in the 3rd gen buy / sale / trade forum, https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/black-prius-mirror-switch-fits-third-gen-no-chrome.666992/ My Tacoma came with a minimal amount of chrome from the factory, it's the cheap model, I'm cheap.

I had some free time, so I hopped on https://www.car-part.com/ :pccoffee: and found a no chrome power mirror switch at a local auto recycler for $35+tax. Its from a 2019 Camry with 18k miles, and the invoice lists the part number as 84872-08020. I picked it up, cleaned it, and swapped mine out. It moves my mirrors like it should, hooray :bananadance:. This was a very easy job, but totally unnecessary. I don't know if I'd do it again, and I'd probably sell this one if someone offered me enough :spending:. The only chrome in my interior I want to omit is the cup holder surround, maybe one day I'll paint it or something. I usually just throw a shirt over it when the sun is blazing. Since pictures are one of the best things the internet has to offer, I should probably contribute a few more. If you've read all this, I'm surprised. Maybe some emojis will help. Now I've got to go back and sprinkle more in :oldglory:. Have a great day.

If you pull up on the knob it will pop off. You can then remove the center top section with a pick. At this point it’s very easy to tape off the bottom a paint the chrome. Costs almost nothing and looks completely factory.

Nice work! I probably should have just done that.

Thanks! I used flat black enamel brush on paint after a light scuff. Hopefully it lasts. I’m kind of surprised no one has scanned and printed the lower portion. It’s very easy to take apart. The light comes through the center shaft and radiates through the top section so painting doesn’t affect the way it looks at night either.

I bet it lasts for a long time considering you scuffed the chrome and rarely use the switch. I agree, I would think the people that make radio knobs would make a matching replacement.

I'm really glad I saw this thread as I've been having trouble sleeping at night worrying about the chrome ring around my switch. :crapstorm:

I was able to sleep better and worry less when I had a 1st Gen Tacoma.

Take it off when you aren’t using it. It’ll help you sleep.

Thank you for the advice. ;)
But seriously, chrome or not chrome I couldn't care less. Some seem to believe it's toxic.

Paint “TRD PRO” on it and sell it for $95. Will fly off the shelf.

Someone would buy it, but I cannot paint that on such a small item.

Good to know it’s easy to paint but I never got glare off that like the dash knobs or cup holder trim.
