So far, I am striking out trying to get a navigation app on my head unit... I know that it should work... with Android Auto, but there might be times where a phone isn't available.

The Salesman says "nope, have to have a phone and compatible cable", what the heck?!?

I don't care if it's not as good as Goggle Maps or Waze, but I'd like to have SOMETHING with a map... I mean there's a dedicated button called "MAP"!!!

when I hit it, it just says that the Navigation app is not installed, so how do I get it installed, and what is "it"?

You have to have the "Dynamic navigation package" or something installed ($3000-ish?) when your truck was built to have built in navigation. Otherwise, you have to connect your phone through the USB below the headunit to use apple carplay or android auto, once one of those in connected, pressing the map button will pull up google maps, waze, or apple maps etc.

These trucks do not have wireless carplay/android auto.

If you're going to areas where reception isn't great. Download the area on Google maps. That should solve the issue.

In today's world, nobody goes anywhere without a phone.... especially on a trip, when you would use navigation, without a phone.
The map button is what you push to get google maps...from your phone. Not hard.

I got it on my 2021. Was called "Premium Audio, Dynamic Navigation" on the sticker, was $1,505. It's not the JBL premium audio.

Yeah you have to have the premium off-road package to get the navigation on it. Even then, you have to pay for the subscription. Mine came with a free trial, but don't think I will be paying for it when it expires.

    Lame, but ok...

Still need to get a cable that is Android Auto compatible I guess, because even the one that came with the phone doesn't work

I think OEM cables should all work. Just make sure you are plugging into the port under headunit cluster, and might have to check phone settings to make sure its turned on or accessible. Maybe even check headunit settings to see if the Android auto is enabled, i believe there is an ON/OFF toggle for both carplay/android.

I feel that way as well, but it works less better than a cable I got from Amazon, which sometimes at least fires off the Android Auto but doesn't stay connected.

Salesman's iPhone worked as expected but I will never go down that path... hell, I'm still trying to un-iTunes my music library!
