I just purchased a used '23 SR5 and for the life of me can't get Apple Car Play.
I have tried multiple different USB cables, iPhones and nothing!!
The iPhone charges from USB, I connect and play music via bluetooth but NO Apple Car Play.

    What to try next?
    Help!

    Thanks in advance.

There’s a setting in the radio options to enable CarPlay. It also has to be enabled on your phone and the phone plugged into the correct USB port in the truck.

Yeah, I found that and turned that on in the radio options. I plugged into the USB in the dash and the one in the center console compartment also.
Is there another USB port somewhere?
The same iPhone worked with CarPlay in my trade in so I know it's not the phone (iPhone 16 pro)

Would a hard reset of radio unit be worth a try? By removing the fuses to the radio for a few minutes?

CarPlay is run through the USB port located under the climate controls. Have you tried another iPhone to truly rule out your phone? Have you tried an Android phone to see if Android auto works in the truck?

Is it still under the 3/36 warranty? Could also require an update to radio. I know my Tacoma needed that because CarPlay stopped working.

Use only factory cables is the first advice. We have a little box that allows the wired apple carplay to go over WiFi for seamless connections. It was about $70 on Amazon.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
These head units are very picky when it comes to which cables are compatible with Apple/Android.

I've got a few cables from UGREEN and SUNGUY that work with AndroidAuto. And a drawer full of other cables that don't.

My wife's cable that came with her iPhone works as well.

But you can't plug in just any $5 Walmart cable or that cable that came with your rechargeable speaker.

I brought it by the dealer who told me that since the Tacoma was formally a lease/fleet vehicle it is linked with another account in the Toyota Connect APP.
Could this be the issue? This company disabled the Apple CarPlay feature? Has anyone heard of such a thing?
Dealer told me that I would have to call Toyota Connect support desk to verify my ownership of the vehicle.
Problem is, their hours at 9am to 6pm UAE standard time!

how has this unit performed for you? I really want wireless CarPlay but I’m afraid of spotty connectivity. Thanks!

The cable has to be a data cable, not just a charging cable.

It took me going to Verizon and getting an expensive data cable for it to work.

I don't know about Apple, don't use their ecosystem.

I know my Samsung S24 needed a data cable and not just a standard charging cable.

99.98% works without issues or dropping. Sometimes Siri is a bit jarbled when reading text messages but otherwise fine.

Make sure you have a clean contact in your charging port.
pocket lint will get in there and interfere with the connection.
I periodically clean it out with a tiny piece of paper towel, with rubbing alchohol swabbed with the head of a needle.
