I am more of an observer and don't ever post much, but I thought I would add my 2 cents on tires.

When I test drove a Tacoma, it had Michelin tires and it was smooth and quiet. Then I saw my truck and was all in. It had "the look". I didn't take it on the highway, I didn't think there would be much difference. The truck I purchased had an off road package from the factory and came with Nitto Terra Grappler G2 tires. I was actually kicking myself on the drive home because the all terrains weren't as quiet and road harder than expected with the tread pattern.

Flash forward to the past month. Hella rain, mud all over the place and now the week long snow and ice storm from hell! 2 weeks ago, the G2's plowed through water like nothing - impressed. Then I had to do some work on my mom's land and they chewed through mud with ease - impressed more. Since last week, 6 hours of freezing rain, then sleet, then a hair over 12 inches of snow. 1st storm dry powdery snow, 2nd wet heavy snow. I only have a 2 wheel drive and I've been turning off the traction control to use the auto limited slip. I've driven EVERYWHERE! Full size 4x4's clawing for traction at green lights and I just pull away. Plow left 2 feet drift at my driveway, she bogged down and ate her way through. Don't get me wrong, the Tacoma has a good system with the auto (brake controlled) limited slip and the truck turns traction control on and off at 35mph on it's own, but it works great with these tires.

I've had mud terrain and all terrains before and wasn't a fan. I normally stick to highway tires. But these are a great compromise. I would never have even considered these if I was tire shopping, but I will definitely buy them again.

I had the same tires on a 4Runner I used to own and was very impressed by them as well! Plus they seemed to last forever, when I sold it the tires were basically worn-out but had ~60K on them. I'm not sure why more people aren't running them on their Taco's.

I’m about to put on a set I’ve had in my garage the past few months. I’ve heard mixed reviews of them over the years but mainly people upgrading to go to a bigger size or a more aggressive off road tire. Or some people saying they performed poorly in rain or too loud blah blah

glad to hear yours are serving you well.

Edit: just curious, what size tire are you running?

I'm on my second set of G2, very pleased with their performance, weight and price. My first set were 265/70/17s that I had for about 40k miles then I went up to 285/70/17 C load tires. Weight difference was only 4lb increase per corner with the larger tire and mpgs only dropped 1-2 depending on highway or city driving.

Not sure if it's still the case but the G2 were the OEM tire for the T4R Pro.

I have run Nitto Terra Grapplers on my FJ for years. Love these tires! When my current factory Taco shoes wear out, I will be replacing them with NItto TG's

Had 2 sets of Nitto Terra Grappler G2s on my Gen2 TRD Sport and loved them. (265/17 17 w/ MT Classic III and factory suspension)

Is there a big difference between the G2 and regular Terra Grapplers? I've been interested in these for my next set but the G2's don't come in a 16" wheel for my TRD OR.

Good to hear that they're working well for you, OP! I have the Terra Grappler G2s as well. I went one size up from stock and didn't take a huge hit in mileage. They've done well on the highway and in the dirt. When it rains, they're pretty good at channeling water away. My only complaint is when the roads are wet and I'm taking off from a stop, it's pretty easy to break traction. They're still better than the stock Toyos that came on the truck, but not as much as I hoped in that situation. Still, I think they're great tires overall and they seem to have pretty good treadwear and they're smooth out on the highway.

Running them now in AZ, 265/70/17. Switched from the Toyo AT2 when they wore out. I was waiting for the AT3, but had to pull the trigger. I wish I could do a side by side comparison since the G2's seem to loose traction in the wet easier compared to the AT2. Hard to really quantify since the experiences are so far apart - just an impression.

Anyone have the three peak/snowflake rating on their G2's? I noticed on the nitro website they now have certain sizes with the winter rating on them, wonder what they changed to get that?

Mine are size 285/70r17 and they do have the 3 peak snow symbol on the size. When I look at their website, the legend says that sizes marked tt are 3 peak snow and ice. Not sure why there's only certain sizes when they're all the same tread.

I LOVE my G2’s! Running 265/60/18s. I drive curvy mountain roads and get over 100 inches of rain /year in my area and have never had an issue with traction on wet or snowy/icy roads. They run smooth on the highway, great tread wear, and perform great off road. Perfect definition of an all terrain tire IMO.

I may opt for the Ridge Grapplers for a slightly more aggressive look and performance when I put my lift on later this year.

Have had the G2's for a year now unfortunately they kinda suck in the rain or muddy asphalt but I was spoiled by my previous Falken tires which generally are considered as one of the best for the rain.

    I guess I’ll update this.
I finally got mine on and been driving in the rain the past few days. They feel fine to me. Definitely notice a little more road noise than my stock toyos but that was expected and really not that bad, my lady doesn’t even notice the difference. They are a win for me and got a slightly used, great condition set for $200 from another TW member so definitely a good upgrade for the money

Thanks for the comments. I’ve narrowed it to these or the Wildpeaks.
