Oh boy, here we go. As most of you can imagine it was only a matter of time before something like this started happening...

This may not be the most popular opinion, but here it is:

I would rather see it broken into by a sophisticated thief and shipped abroad, than taken by knuckleheads for a joyride and left damaged and soiled for me to deal with.

If you're going to take it, keep it. I'm insured, I don't want it back.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I was about to remark on this as well.
Guess no one bothers to check for previous posts when they stumbled upon a new (to them) topic the they feel should be out there for all Taco owners (and Taco thieves).

I think there was three threads posted on this the first day it was posted. This is probably the sixth or seventh post.

As long as there is something easier to steal than it is to buy, there will be thieves.
What people seem to forget is it is a lot harder to steal nowadays than it used to be with manual locks and keys. Thief would go in with a slim Jim, slide hammer and a jumper wire and he was gone in 60 seconds.
Do people ignore history? Are they doomed to repeat it?

So there, somehow I tied Einstein and Nicholas Cage together in the same paragraph...

    Case of court ordered theft.
    https://www.msn.com/en-za/news/other/panel-beater-bank-in-legal-tussle-over-toyota-hilux/ar-AA19xYGL

“There is no reason whatsoever why the motor vehicle should not be returned to the applicant (bank) in the meantime whilst other outstanding issues between the parties shall be ventilated in the trial court,” Acting Judge RP Mdhluli said

The bank isn't going to pay the shop if the bank is in possession of the vehicle.

What kind of legal system is this?

The shop is in possession of the Hilux, bank has a lien on the Hilux. Pay the shop the accrued storage. Bank gets their Hilux back. That's how it's should work.

They can clean the meth residue and fix the front end damage and broken steering rack, why don’t you want your truck back?

South Africa, the term panel beater kind of gave it away, or the Rand currency lol. They got bigger fish to fry down there than this stupid dispute.

Yeah SA, what a system. Any lein holder in the US would just pay the charges, as long as they aren't fraudulent. It's a wrecked Hilux, I'm surprised they don't just abandoned the thing at the panel beaters. It's like their whole institution is proped up by this single auto loan.

I mean the bank does own the vehicle though. So why shouldn’t they get it back in a payment default situation?

That's interesting that they're going after the radio/NAV, for one. I know a guy that goes through trade-ins at a dealer to see what needs to be done to either: 1) sale on their lot; 2) sell to a local used car lot; 3) send to auction. He made a comment to me that it's very common for cars to need a new radio/NAV due to damaged screens, and how even at dealer costs are expensive to replace.

Guess we'll have to return to having radios with faceplates again.

Body shop has possession of the vehicle they should have their fees paid in full to release the vehicle. Unless the bank shows up with a transporter and armed gaurds how are they going to take possession of the vehicle?
