    Hello my new friends.
Just picked up this beautiful 1998 2WD Tacoma in Mystic Purple Mica.
What a dream-- 82000kms, 5 speed, and in beautiful shape.
An excellent replacement for my 1983 that I crashed a few years back.

    IMG_5526.HEIC.jpg

Just had the box sprayed in and threw my racks up top.

The shop doing the work *murdered* my rear bumper and I need to find a replacement.

I think a stock bumper in black would be best, but I can't seem to find any. Just the chrome ones like what is already on it. Chrome

    Any tips?

If the shop wrecked it shouldn’t they be finding you a new one o_O

I’ve been searching Craigslist. Mine is roached. I missed out on a mint rear bumper and they were only asking $50. :frusty:

Im pretty sure all first gens have the same rear bumper.

Yeah I might go back to them and see what they can do but I spotted it a little too late and now im feeling like a dope for missing it.
Good to know the 1st gen bumpers are all the same. Maybe I'll wait for something to pop up on CL. Thanks for the tip.

I really think you should reconsider your definition of "murdered".

Maybe a little dramatic, but it was mint before.

    "murdered" lol

I had to look twice at that pick to even notice the "damage".

    You should see my bumper.

The chances of finding a 20+ year old bumper in better condition is pretty slim. There are new aftermarket OEM "like" options, but those always seem to be crap, and don't fit right, and probably come in a condition that is likely to bother you. You might be able to find some new-old stock from a dealer, or look at some online dealers (camelback toyota and a few others have a good on-line presence) but you're probably going to pay $600-$800 for one.

What a great little truck! I sure wish they made another truck that size.

    Enjoy!

Not sure about yours but mine says toyota on the black plastic step cover on passenger side top. I have taken parts and pieces off my 2001 ALL over my truck and I am very surprised about how there is an original sticker or toyota stamp on most parts, that's still there. Look around on yours

Being that it's actual metal. Why not just have some one fix it? I had a vertical crease on my 89 and got it fixed instead of replaced. They can even re Chrome it or paint it

I didnt think to look at mine lol. o_O I am even under the truck today.

Speaking of the plastic step, I am going to grab one the says 5,000 lbs instead of 3,500. My travel trailer looks a little big behind my Battered Taco.

Good timing. I’m also looking for a rear bumper, oem is good by me. I like the off road ones but I have a tow hitch so no advantage there, and I like that little shelf on the factory one

Have you checked ebay and Amazon? Black or chrome, OE style, either way ~$100. Not genuine Toyota but indistinguishable.

I avoid Chinese across the board, its not easy. From can openers to truck parts to motorcycle parts. All the time, every time. I try to employ the rest of the world with humility and without judgment to the Chinese. Just a real way to have my part on the economy. Just my thang, not to be on the highest horse.

I'm 100% with you in principle. And, sometimes there is no alternative.... Other than a DIY bumper made out of oak ;)

FWIW, I put one of these aftermarket chrome bumpers on my salt-state winter truck about 4 years ago. No rust as of yet... The steel might be a little thinner (or might not) but the quality seems fine. OEM bumpers rusted very quickly.

    good luck --
